Adorable Owls Diagonal Background Cards

I had lots of leftover paper from my Dandy Designs Designer Series Paper mega-packs, so I tried the fun patterns with the sweet, whimsical characters from the Adorable Owls stamp set. They work perfectly together! I was inspired by two swap cards I received from Susan Campfield.

Background Basics—I started with a vertically-folded card base measuring 4-1/4" x 11" and scored at the 5-1/2" mark. Next, I cut three patterns of Dandy Designs DSP, all 5" long at different widths: 2", 1" and 1/2". I started by adding adhesive to the back of the 2" strip, then I mounted it at an angle so it just covered the bottom right corner. I added the next two strips the same way, flush with each other. I turned over the card front and trimmed away the excess on the edges with my super-sharp Paper Snips to finish the look. Too Cool!. 

 

Sweet Owl—I stamped the Adorable Owl onto a Basic White Stylish Shapes die-cut circle in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. It's colored in with a variety of Stampin' Blends Markers. I used Smoky Slate for the outer feathers, Pal Papaya for the beak and feet, Pool Party for the eyes, and Light Bermuda Bay with Granny Apple Green for the hat. I added some Wink of Stella glimmer on the hat and the feathers around the eyes and on the chest. I love how the plain white really pops like a snow owl when you add some Wink. I popped up the circle with Dimensionals.

 

Sweet Sentimen—I stamped the Adorable Owls sentiment in Memento Black ink onto a Basic White Stylish Shapes banner die-cut. It's popped up, too!

 

Finishing Touches—I tied a bow with the Pool Party Grosgrain Ribbon and attached it with a Glue Dot, then accented the circle with Iridescent Rhinestones.

 

 

Two Cool—My second card begins with a Petal Pink vertically-folded card base and features three different patterns of Dandy Designs DSP.

 

 

Sweet Owl—This time, the owl is colored with Petal Pink and Crumb Cake Blends. The hat is in Pale Papaya and Fresh Freesia, eyes are in Smoky Slate and beak and feet are in Pale Papaya. The hat, eye feathers and chest are all Winked up, too!

 

Finishing Touches—I used Fresh Freesia Open Weave Ribbon for this bow. Those Iridescent Rhinestones totally match all of the Dandy Design DSP colors, so they work so well!
