Adorable Owls Corner Tuck Cards

A big shout-out to Susan Campfield, who shared how to create this cute Corner Tuck style card, and to Ronda Wade for the Adorable Owls inspiration for it! 

 

I make these cards with the shortened fronts all the time, but I love the little twist of having a little corner pocket to tuck and secure the card front. So cute & functional!

Background Basics—I started with an 8" x 4-1/4" piece of Fresh Freesia cardstock, scored at the 5-1/2" mark. Next, I adhered a 1" x 4-1/4" strip of Dandy Designs Designer Series Paper down the edge of the shortened card front. I also adhered a 3" x 3" piece of Basic White to a 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" piece of Mango Melody cardstock and adhered it about 1/8" from the DSP using the SEAL+ Adhesive for a more secure hold.

 

Inside The Card—It's important to add the inside background and writing piece BEFORE adding the corner piece. I adhered a 5" x 3-3/4" piece of Dandy Designs DSP to the inside first. FYI - your kit will receive the squares Fresh Freesia pattern as shown on the video, not the flowers pattern shown here. I added the 3" x 3" piece of Basic White next. TIP: Add adhesive to the Basic White piece, then position it back-to-back with the Mango Melody piece, then close the card. That way the piece will be perfectly hidden behind the front square. 

 

Finally, I created a corner piece by cutting a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" piece of DSP in half diagonally. I added a Basic White 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" diagonally cut piece to it with Multipurpose Liquid Glue to make it a little sturdier. Then, I affixed the piece flush to the corner with two very thin beads of Multipurpose Liquid Glue to create the little pocket. You'll want to wait a bit to make sure it is dry and secure.

 

Sweet Owl—I stamped the Adorable Owl onto Basic White in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. It's colored in with a variety of Stampin' Blends Markers. I used Light Smoky Slate for the outer feathers, Light Pale Papaya for the feathers around the eyes and on the breast, Fresh Freesia for the bow tie, Light Pumpkin Pie for the beak and feet and Light Crumb Cake for the eyes. I added some Wink of Stella glimmer on the feathers around the eyes and on the chest, as well as the bow tie. Then, I used my super-sharp Paper Snips to fussy-cut the owl and popped him up with Dimensionals.

 

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the Adorable Owls sentiment in Memento Black ink onto a Basic White Stylish Shapes banner die-cut. It's popped up, too!

 

Finishing Touches—I tied Pale Papaya Open Weave Ribbon around the card front into a double-knot and trimmed the ends. I finished by adding a few Champagne Rhinestones.

 

 

Two Cool—For my second card, I started with a Pool Party card base and a Coastal Cabana matted frame. I chose a Granny Apple Green pattern of Dandy Designs DSP for the inside and polka dots for the coordinating front and corner pieces.

 

 

Sweet Owl—This time, the owl is colored the same, but has Pool Party colored eyes. It's all Winked up with shimmer, too!

 

Finishing Touches—I used Fresh Freesia Open Weave Ribbon for this card and accented with Iridescent Rhinestones.
