Marvelous Marquee Messages Cards

Today I'm sharing another project from my "Last Thursdays" monthly card class featuring the fabulously fun Marquee Messages stamp set!  This is a really fun set to mix & match paper colors using the Paper Piecing technique.  You can make it girly, or masculine.  Keep it plain or dress it up with lots of bling.  It's fun for all ages, too!

Background Basics—I'm still having fun playing with the new In Colors, and this time I added some Soft Sky accents to the mix.  I started by adhering a 1" x 5-1/2" piece of the striped Sweet Sugarplum Designer Series Paper to the Peekaboo Peach card base.

Pieced Marquee Layers—I stamped the big Marquee Message image in Archival Black Ink onto a 3-1/2" x 4-1/8" piece of Whisper White card stock, and stamped the first part of the words on the inside.  Next, I stamped the bottom sign portion of the marquee onto Soft Sky Subtles Designer Series Paper, hand-cut it out with super-sharp Paper Snips, and adhered it to the original stamped image.  This is called Paper Piecing.  I did the same thing with the arrow portion of the image onto Sweet Sugarplum card stock, then hand-cut it and popped it up over the original image with Dimensionals.

TIP: I recommend using the Archival Black Ink when stamping on DSP for a crisp, clean black image.  Other black inks are not opaque and permanent enough to stamp on the patterns without them showing though.

More Coloring—I finished the image by coloring the outlined words with the Peekaboo Peach and the outer marquee lines with the Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Write Markers.  The stamped layer was matted onto a 3-5/8" x 4-1/4" piece of Perfect Plum card stock, then popped up with Dimensionals onto the card front.

Shimmery Touches—I used the Wink of Stella Gold to add touches of gold shimmer to all of the dots on the arrow, as well as the sparkle stars on either side of the "birthday."

Inside Décor—The Marquee Messages set has some coordinating phrases that perfectly complete the card on the inside!  I liked this "rock star" words with the birthday message.  I also stamped some of the sparkles and colored them in with markers. I little strip of matching Sweet Sugarplum DSP gives a nice touch!

Two Cool—I swapped the Peekaboo Peach and Soft Sky colors on the second card for a whole new, more masculine look.

Greeting—I also tried one of the "awesome" alternate phrases on this one, and finished up with Wink of Stella Clear shimmer this time.

Inside Décor—There are several phrases to complete the "you are awesome" sentiment including, "so proud of you," so excited to see you," or "…and I appreciate everything you do."  I added the clear Wink of Stella onto my colored sparkles, too!
