Sparkly Swallowtail Wonderful Life Card
The huge Swallowtail stamp is retiring on May 31, so I decided to bring it out for one last class card. I love the fun overlapped border look of this card design, but you should see it in person—so SO sparkly! Let's take a closer look…
Background Basics—This card has a fun opening that lends itself to this large-image stamp. I started with a quarter-sheet card base, 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" of Lost Lagoon card stock. The main part of the card is created with a 10-1/2" x 4" piece of Whisper White card stock, scored at the 5-1/4" mark, and ultimately adhered to the Lost Lagoon card foundation.
Swallowtail Border—I stamped the retiring Swallowtail image in Archival Black Ink to the left of the card front, tilted so that the tips of the right wing spans the height of the card. I used my Paper Snips to hand-cut the border along the wing.
Butterfly Coloring—I used an Aqua Painter and Classic Ink Pads to color in the Swallowtail with Night of Navy, Pear Pizzazz & retiring Lost Lagoon colors. TIP: Remember to squeeze the ink pads together while they are closed to transfer ink to the lid of the pad to use as the palette.
I finished the front with some flecks of Pear Pizzazz color from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.
Goodbye Glue Pen—To make this card really pop, I added lots of Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the wings using the awesome & soon-to-retire 2-Way Glue Pen. Did you catch that? The 2-Way Glue Pen is RETIRING! That pen is hands-down the best way to add Dazzling Diamonds to your projects! It's also THE best way to add a little temporary glue to Clear-Mount stamps to help them stick & stay on the block while stamping. I'm so sad it's going away, so I stocked up!
Sweet Sentiment—To finish the inside of the card, I stamped the wavy image from retiring Chalk Lines in Night of Navy across the bottom. The sentiment is from the retiring Perfectly Penned stamp set, also in Night of Navy.
Two Cool—I changed up the colors on the second version of this card, starting with an Elegant Eggplant card foundation.
Purple Palette—This time, I colored the butterfly with Wisteria Wonder, Rich Razzleberry & Soft Sky inks.
Finishing Touches—I added the Gorgeous Grunge flecks to the inside of the card in Soft Sky ink, and the Chalk Lines are stamped in Rich Razzleberry.
Complete Supplies List—"Clear" means a rubber stamp on a clear block. "Photopolymer" is see-thru.
