Snap close treat boxes - two cool

Merry Moments Self-Closing Box

OK, this box is definitely a Too Cool treat holder!  Not only does it have a funky-fold design, but it also has a handy self-closing top!

Snap close treat boxes - plaidInspired by Debbie Henderson at Debbie's Designs.

Self-Closing Treat Box Basics—This box starts with a 6" x 8-1/2" piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock.  Then, it's just a matter of some strategically placed score lines to fold it into shape.  I was going to write out the instructions, but it's a little too complicated without visuals, so I'll direct you to this handy video tutorial: Self-Closing Treat Box by Christine.  (I recommend you turn down your volume…there is no audio of the tutorial…only creepy music!  LOL!)

If you're coming to the class, or you purchase a Class-To-go Kit, I'll have all of the scoring done for you and the box will be ready to assemble!

TIP #1: For the diagonal score lines, I used a Bone Folder and ruler on top of a Piercing Mat.  TIP #2: Assemble the box as shown in the video with Tear & Tape Adhesive.

Decorating The Box—The video above also shows how to easily cut the Designer Series Paper to fit the triangle panels. You'll need two 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" square pieces that you'll cut down to decorate all of the triangle panels. I used the Merry Moments Designer Series Paper Stack. I also cut two 3-3/4" x 3/4" strips from the same paper pack to decorate the top of the box on the front and back sides.

Opening The Box—Once the box is assembled, it is automatically held closed without any adhesive needed.  To open it, you simply squeeze together the sides of the box and it opens up.  If you're my age or older, you'll recognize that it opens like one of those old plastic coin holders that men used to carry.

Poinsettia Embellishment—I decorated the front of the box with a beautiful poinsettia flower created with the help of the Festive Flower Punch.

To make the flower, I used:

  • 2 of the smallest petal pairs in Cherry Cobbler.
  • 4 of the medium size petals in Cherry Cobbler.
  • 4 of the largest petals in Cherry Cobbler.

I stamped the coordinating images from the Reason For The Season stamp set to create the Cherry Cobbler veining for the petals, then folded each petal in half. I assembled the whole flower with Glue Dots, starting by crossing the center petal pairs, then added the larger petal in between. The whole flower was mounted on the box with Dimensionals.  I finished off the flower with an Iced Rhinestone in the center.  Hey, that's one of the Weekly Deals!  Woohoo!

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the Flurry of Wishes greeting in Old Olive onto Whisper White card stock, then punched it out with the Washi Tape Punch and popped it with Dimensionals on the top of the box.

Two Cool—I created a second box with the polka dots from the Merry Moments Stack and this time added the greeting to the flower instead.

Here's a view from the back.  This are good-size boxes, measuring about 5" tall, 4" wide and 2-3/4" deep at its outer-most edges.  It easily holds gift cards, money, or lots of candy treats!

Complete Supplies List—"Clear" means a rubber stamp on a clear block. "Photopolymer" is see-thru.

I'd Love To Hear From You!
