Carols of Christmas Poinsettia Border Cards

I love the traditional festive look and intricately cut borders on this last stack of cards featured in my September Countdown To Christmas class.  Let's take a closer look!

 

 

Background Basics—The Card Front Builder Thinlits come with two intricate poinsettia corner dies for creating beautiful decorative borders on cards!  I ran my 5" x 3-3/4" piece of Very Vanilla through the Big Shot twice to get all four corners die-cut.  You'll want to use the Precision Base Plate on this one for nice cuts and easier release of the paper from the die-cut holes.  TIP: I positioned the edges of the thinlit die flush with the edges of my card stock to prevent any unsightly indentations from the edge of the die.

 

After making sure I had all the little pieces out with my Paper Piercing Tool, I layered it onto a piece of 5-1/8" x 3-7/8" Tranquil Tide card stock and mounted it onto a Cherry Cobbler card base.

 

 

Poinsettia Décor—I stamped the small poinsettia flower from Carols of Christmas in Cherry Cobbler ink onto Very Vanilla.  I used one of the corner dies to die-cut the flower.  The other corner die does not fit the flower shape, so you'll find that two of your corner flowers will not exactly line up with the die-cut window underneath when you go to pop them up with Dimensionals. 

 

Ribbon—Before adding my focal point, I wrapped some Gold & Vanilla Metallic Edge Satin Ribbon around the entire card front and tied into a double-knot. 

 

 

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the Carols of Christmas greeting in Cherry Cobbler onto Very Vanilla, then die-cut it with a scallop oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits.  I cut out an Old Olive oval to layer underneath it, then mounted it onto over the ribbon with Dimensionals. 

 

Next, I stamped the sentiment again in Tranquil Tide ink and trimmed out the center "THE" by hand.  I know it looks like it's cut with the Classic Label Punch, but It's a bit longer and skinnier than that shape. You could use the punch to trim the ends of that piece, but I thought it was easier to trim by hand.

 

Holly Accent—I finished the card by coloring onto the holly leaf with an Old Olive & Cherry Cobbler Marker, then stamping onto Very Vanilla.  There's a die for that shape in the Card Front Builder Thinlits to make it easy to cut out.  I adhered it with a Glue Dot.

 

  

Two Cool—You know I like to mix it up a little bit, so for two of the cards, I used the "Peace On Earth" sentiment. 

 

This time, I colored directly onto the rubber stamp with my Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Tranquil Tide markers for a tri-color look!  I REALLY love that Christmas color combo!  What do you think of it?

Frostwood Lodge Card Holder Gift Bag

I saw the cutest gift bag idea presented by Megan Wheeler at the Louisville Regional. 

It was an easy-to-make gift bag (shown at the right), that was made from one sheet of card stock and a lunch sack.

My favorite part was that the front decoration is actually a full-size Christmas card, featuring the Festive & Fun set, in a clear envelope pocket.  It's an awesome way to decorate the package, while showcasing the card that you give with your gift!  Too Cool!

I decided to create a very simple version (because I was running out of time) to show at my Demo Meeting last week.  Fortunately, it didn't take long to make!

Card Holder Gift Bag How-Tos

• Cut a medium size lunch bag (less than 5-1/2" wide base) down to about 6" tall.
• Cut an 8-1/2 x 11" sheet of card stock in half to make the front and back panels.
• Stamp the panels, or adhere Designer Paper.
• Punch an Extra Large Oval Punch at the top of each sheet.  Punch one side, then use it as a template to punch the other side.
• Adhere the panels with Sticky Strip.
• Cut the self-seal flap off of a Clear Envelope and adhere to the front panel with Sticky Strip in an upside-down "T" shape (along the bottom, and up the center).  This makes it easier to insert your card into the envelope.

I could have added a lot of extra embellishments and decoration, but this clean design looks great even without it.  And, it only took a few minutes to have a great-looking, handmade gift bag!

Lunch Bag Bonus

Plus, Megan gave us a bonus idea!  Save that lunch bag top that you cut off and put it to good use!

Fold up the bottom and adhere it closed.

Decorate the front to match the gift bag.

 

Then, use it as a cookie pouch by adding one of those new Sweet Pressed stamped cookies!  What a yummy little gift!  (Wish I had a cookie to put in my pouch to show you, but somebody ate it!  *whistles innocently*

I was introduced to the Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamps at our big Convention last July when we had them for dessert at one of our lunches—YUM! 

They also gave us a few tips about using the Cookie Stamps...

TIP 1: The two recipes that come with the Cookie Stamps, suger cookie and shortbread cookie recipes, have been tested and proven to provide the best stamping results on your cookies.  Start with those!  

Tip 2: If you want to try your own recipes, the "drier" cookie batters that hold a rolled ball shape will work the best.  Obviously, the drop cookies won't hold an impression, because they are too moist. But, even some of the shortbread or sugar cookie recipes will lose the impression while baking if the batter isn't stiff enough.  They mentioned gingerbread cookies as another possibility for good results.
