Hi Stamping Friends!

Today we're taking a closer look at another card from my Fun Folds & Amazing Accents Class.  This is the "amazing accent" part of the class!  It's a festive, birthday shaker card that's perfect for any age!

Inspired by Pam Steckman at Stampin' In The Sun.

Background Basics—I started by adhering a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of bokeh patterned Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper on a 3-5/8" x 4-7/8" piece of Whisper White.  Next I ran that layer through the Big Shot with the Balloon Framelit at a slight tilt. 

I stamped the balloon tail in Island Indigo at the bottom of the window.  And, I finished off the bottom with a border of gray patterned Sweet Dreams Washi Tape.

Embossed Sentiment—I laid the background over the Island Indigo card base for positioning, then I stamped the Celebrate Today "celebrate" in VersaMark through the window opening. 

I lifted the background, then also stamped some confetti from the Balloon Bash stamp set on the top and bottom of the word in VersaMark.  Then, I embossed all of the images in Silver Embossing Powder with the Heat Tool until glossy & smooth.

Shaker Assembly—I attached a 3" x 3" Window Sheet on the back of the balloon window with retired washi tape.  Then, I added a double layer of Dimensionals all the way around the balloon.  I like to use the outside edges of my Dimensionals for this, so I have fewer holes for sequins to potentially escape.  You want to keep all of those little buggers inside!

TIP: You don't have to necessarily go in a circle around the balloon, just make a square that's close to the edges of the balloon shape.  Much easier!

Once the shaker area is enclosed, add a double layer of Dimensionals over the rest of the back.

Sequins & Confetti—My shaker confetti includes some Bermuda Bay Sequins, Silver Glimmer stars punched with the Confetti Stars Border Punch, and Pool Party card stock hearts punched with the Confetti Hearts Border Punch. 

Lay the card base on the table and add 2-3 small pinches of the confetti to the center of the embossed image.  If you want the Silver Glimmer sides to show more, this is your chance to flip them to the right side.  I liked that some were showing white. 

Peel the backing from your shaker layer, then carefully adhere it over the confetti.  Try it out and make sure you don't have any leaks! 

TIP: To eliminate static inside the shaker card, wipe the inside of the window sheet lightly with a dryer sheet before assembling.

Finishing Touch—I wanted to add a little more sparkle outside of the shaker, so I die-cut a cute little Silver Glimmer Paper ribbon using the new Mini Treat Bag Thinlits.  I almost like all of the little die-cuts in that thinlit set even more than the treat bag!  This little bow is darling!  It's adhered with the Multipurpose Glue.

Inside Décor—I used my balloon cut-out to decorate the inside!  I also stamped the Balloon Bash confetti stamp a couple of times in Pool Party ink underneath the Celebrate Today sentiment.  So cute!

Hi Stamping Friends!

I'm heading to Florida today to visit with my parents for a few days before heading to our Leadership Conference in Orlando!  While I'm gone, I thought it would be fun to focus on a week-long Valentine's Day theme!  I've got several heart-themed projects created by my Too Cool Team from our last shoebox swap that I can't wait to show you.  Stay tuned all this week for their fun projects!  

Today's Sunday Showcase kicks off my Valentine's week!  Let's see some projects created by my Too Cool Team!

You & me tag - vicki copy

Created by Vicki Hinen.  Colors: Basic Gray, Basic Black, Real Red & Silver.

#1—Vicki created this cute Valentine's card for our team swap this month.  I love its simple, clean lines and that it's not too "girly" to give to a guy!  The Perfect Pennants (wood) sentiment is stamped in White Craft Ink on a tag punched with the Scallop Tag Topper Punch.  She added sparkly Sweetheart Punch accents in Red Glimmer and Silver Glimmer Paper.

Also features: 1/8" Silver ribbon, Banners Framelits and retired Adorning Accents Texture Impressions Folder.

#2—I love the unique shape of Peggy's collage Valentine's card!  She used the Envelope Punch Board to create notches in the sides of the card.  The front is decorated with layers of stamping from the Work of Art (wood) stamp set.

#3—Peggy also created a fun little file folder Valentine's treat holder that's the perfect size for a Ghirardelli Chocolate.  It's also created with the Envelope Punch Board.  She decorated the treat holder with some retired DSP, Sweetheart punches and Basic Black Baker's Twine.  See a tutorial on how to make this treat holder on Jini Merck's Stamp With Jini blog.

Created by Janet Shinn.  CASEd from Stampin' Success Magazine and Mary Fish at Stampin' Pretty.  Colors: Crisp Cantaloupe, Basic Black & Whisper White.

#4—Janet used the Sweetheart Punch and the Stacked With Love Designer Series Paper Stack to create a pretty Valentine's heart frame.

The hearts are decorated with the SAB Best Year Ever Accessory Pack ribbon, Boho Blossoms Punch, Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack heart, Hearts Border Punch, Banner Punch & Rhinestone Jewels.  What a lovely home décor piece!  It would make a nice gift, too!

Created by Michelle Hoover at Hoover's Dam Stamping.  Colors: Kraft, Crisp Cantaloupe & Basic Black.

#5—Michelle created these adorable little Mini Treat Boxes for a little favor at our Kickoff Party  She was inspired by the Valentine's boxes shown in the Occasions Catalog on page 4.  The box is decorated with Stacked With Love Designer Series Paper Stack banner.  It's accented with an Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack heart and Rhinestone Jewel .  A small piece of Stacked With Love Washi Tape adorns the bottom of the box.  And, the box is topped with a mini bow created with the Bow Builder Punch and more Stacked With Love paper.

The box is the perfect size for fitting a few pieces of bite-sized chocolates.

Created by Michelle Hoover at Hoover's Dam Stamping.  Colors: Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper White & Gold.

#6—Michelle created this cute Valentine's treat bag with the new Mini Treat Bag Thinlits and Back To Black Designer Series Paper.  It's decorated with Groovy Love (wood) stamp images, punched with the Sweetheart Punch, and Stacked With Love Washi Tape.  The red banner and Gold Glimmer Paper bow are both die-cut with accessory dies from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits set.

#7—Peggy tried out the Gift Bag Card Hanger idea to create this pretty Valentine's gift bag.  Her card hanger is decorated with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack heart and the Hearts Border Punch.  I love all of the ribbons tied to the handle: Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, retired White Sweater Trim and 1/8" Silver Ribbon.

#8—The matching card hanging on Peggy's bag is so cute!  I love how she has the Hearts Border Punch mini hearts floating across the card.  She used the Label Love (wood) stamp set to make a little frame for the Itty Bitty Accents hearts.

Today, I've got another cute card idea from my Kickoff Party a couple weeks ago.  I think this one is fun for both kids and adults! 

Cheerful critters - two cool

The cards feature the Cheerful Critters stamp set, which comes with three critters—a bear, chick and rabbit—all holding signs.

It's so much fun mixing & matching the phrases with the characters!  Hey Moms—kids could make some really cute Valentine's Day or Easter cards with these and have so much fun coloring them!

I couldn't resist starting with the bears, since I used to be an avid Teddy Bear collector!

Background Basics—I started with a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White, then added a 4" x 3/4" piece of Bermuda Bay across the bottom.  That layer is adhered to the Night of Navy card base. 

Confetti Paper—Next, I added another colorful background element with a strip of 1-3/4" x 5-1/4" Birthday Bash confetti patterned paper.  It's matted on a piece of 2" x 5-1/4" Calypso Coral card stock.

Coloring The Critter—I stamped the Cheerful Critters bear image in Memento Black Ink onto Whisper White card stock, then colored him in with the Blendabilities Markers.  I used Night of Navy and Calypso Coral for the stripes of his shirt and Crumb Cake for the bear himself.  His ears and muzzle are colored with Sahara Sand Stampin' Write Markers. I only I had the Skin Tones Blendabilities assortment, it would have worked perfectly here.

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the Cheerful Critters "happy day" phrase inside the sign, then outlined the sign with Daffodil Delight Blendabilities Marker.  I punched some stars from Night of Navy card stock with the Confetti Stars Border Punch, then adhered one of them to the sign with Multipurpose Glue. 

Circle Focal Point—The bear image was die-cut with the 2-3/8" Circles Collection Framelits. I matted the stamped circle onto a 2-1/2" Circle Punch of Night of Navy card stock.  That was then mounted on a 2-3/4" Starburst Framelits die-cut shape and popped up with Dimensionals onto the card front.

More Stars Accents—I finished off the bottom border with a few more stars punched from the Confetti Stars Border Punch.  Did you notice that they match the stars in the Birthday Bash confetti DSP?  They do!

My horizontal version is a fun "congratulations" card featuring the chick image.

I colored the chick with the Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral Blendabilities Markers.  The sign was outlined in the lightest color of Night of Navy.  Isn't he darling?  Love these cute little critters!

Light up scallop circle - 1 

Scallop Circle Tri-Fold Card—I love the fancy-fold card style of this Balloon Bash card.  I did a similar card back in 2013 and it was CASED from Trudy Freas: Scallop Circle Tri-Fold Card.  It all starts with a 4-1/4" x 11" piece of Bermuda Bay, and the finished card fits perfectly in a standard A2 Medium Envelope!

When you open the top flap, you find that the scallop circle was peeking out through a circle window.  It's a fun, unexpected element!  I added a 4-1/4" x 1-3/4" strip of the candle Birthday Bash Designer Series Paper to this layer.

Open up the bottom flap and you have lots of room to decorate and write inside!  Sweet!

Create Your Own Scallop Circle Tri-Fold Card

  • Start with a standard vertical card base: 4-1/4" x 11".
  • Score along the 11" side at 4-1/8" and 8-1/2".
  • With the card fully open, position the 2-1/2" Circle Punch over the 8-1/2" score line so the fold is in the center of the circle and the card stock is in the punch as far as it will go.  Punch!
  • Punch a 2-3/8" Scallop Circle.  With the card folded closed, adhere the scallop circle to the top of the card that shows through the semi-circle hole.  I used Dimensionals, but you could also use a little bit of Sticky Strip to keep it in place securely.
  • Decorate!

Light up scallop circle - 2 

Candles Scallop Circle—I colored the Balloon Bash candles image with Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral and Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Markers, then stamped onto Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the 2" Circle Punch.  It's adhered to a Calypso Coral layer that's punched with the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch.  I adhered the medallion to the card with Dimensionals (on the bottom half of the circle only!). 

Photopolymer Stamp TIP: There is a sentiment that is attached to the candles image, but I used my Paper Snips to cut them apart for more versatility.  It makes it super-easy to ink & stamp each of the images wherever you want!

Sparkling Flames—You can't really tell in the photo, but after everything was adhered, I added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter with a 2-Way Glue Pen to give the flames some flicker.  

Tie It On—I wrapped some of the the 1/4" Calypso Coral Ribbon from the Sale-A-Bration Best Year Ever Accessory Pack through the circle window and tied it in a cute double-knot bow.

Terrific Trims—To pick up the scallop theme, I punched a Scallop Edge Border in Whisper White and adhered it along the edge of the top flap.  I also embossed a 1" x 4-1/4" piece of Bermuda Bay with the Decorative Dots Texture Impressions Folder for a detailed background. 

Sweet Sentiment—The "light 'em up" sentiment, which I had cut from the candle image, is inked with Night of Navy and stamped onto Whisper White. I punched it with the Modern Label punch and popped it up over a 2-5/8" x 1/4" strip of Crushed Curry.  I fish-tailed the ends of the Crushed Curry banner and added Rhinestone Jewel accents to go with the sparkling flames.

I made a second card, but I like the first one so much that the only thing I changed was the sentiment.  This birthday greeting is cut apart from another "HB" image from the Balloon Bash stamp set.  I love being able to use these phrases independently from the corresponding graphic.  I won't hesitate to do this on more photopolymer sets in the future!

The rainbow chevron pattern from the Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper makes a fun background for a birthday card for any age!  Peggy used an image from the Tag It (wood) stamp set, which is this year's Ronald McDonald House Charities set.  $3 from every set sold is donated to the charity.  I love how Peggy popped up the balloons in different colors!  A quick & super-cute card!

Darla featured the cute banners from the Sale-A-Bration Banner Blast (wood) stamp set, and punched them out with the coordinating Sale-A-Bration Banner Punch.  Looks like she used markers to make the two-color diagonal striped banner.  The background is embossed with another Sale-A-Bration selection...Decorative Dots Sale-A-Bration Embossing Folder.

I love the colors from the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack against the neutral Crumb Cake card base.  The background is stamped in Crumb Cake with the Posititvely Chevron (wood) background stamp. The Perfect Pennants (wood) sentiment and designer papers are die-cut with the Banners Framelits.

Peggy used the Secret Garden (wood) stamp set to make the beautifully watercolored flowers.  The leaves are actually made from one of the blooms in the set.  I love that she cut out smaller layers to pop up and even made a smaller single bloom from the same image.  So pretty!

Created by Kathe Madsen. Colors: Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Basic Gray, Smoky Slate and Whisper White.

Peggy stamped the Too Kind (wood) flower image over the lacy Hello, Doily (wood) background for a pretty layered look. The Label Something (wood) sentiment is punched with the coordinating Artisan Label Punch and popped up over the ribbon.

Jodi - enjoy retro copy  

Created by Jodi Geers at the Polka Dot Stamper.  Colors: Tangerine Tango, Coastal Cabana and Very Vanilla. 

Jodi used the fun Retro Fresh papers, along with the Chevron Builder Punch to make a cool background on this card.  I love that she used the Word Bubble Framelits with the sentiment from Simply Celebrate (wood)—you can use any sentiments with those bubbles!

Also features: Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch and Brights Candy Dots.

Geometrical - two cool

Have you seen all of the bold geometric designs out there in the fashion and interior decorating world?  Hexagons, chevrons, triangles and circles are popping up everywhere! The new Geometrical stamp set is just one example of how Stampin' Up! is keeping up with the trend!

OK, I have to admit that I wasn't completely sold on the Geometrical set at first, but after playing with it at our Leadership conference, I'm realizing just how fun of a set it is, especially for masculine cards!  And, we're always looking for new and different masculine options, right?!

Geometrical - hooray

Inspired by Justin Krieger at JK Cards.

We'll be creating today's featured cards at my "Last Thursdays" class tonight.  I love that the design features striking colors and elements from Geometrical to give it a festive, yet masculine, feel.  Ladies—don't be scared to use bright colors—guys like more than just browns, blues and grays! 

Card Base—The Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper coordinates perfectly with the images from the Geometrical set, so I used that as my color guide.  The background piece is 2" x 5-1/2" and is matted on a piece of 2-1/4" x 5-1/2" Basic Black card stock.  I adhered it to a Smoky Slate card base.

Sentiment Circle—The cheerful sentiment is stamped in Bermuda Bay ink, then die-cut with the Circle Collection Framelits.  I used the Chevron Border Punch to create Basic Black chevron accents that I adhered with SNAIL under the greeting.  I love that the "hooray for today" phrase could be used for birthdays, a special day, or just the everyday! 

Focal Point Accents—I added a short piece of the 1-1/4" Black Chevron Ribbon for a little texture.  A few randomly placed Rhinestone Jewels almost look like bubbles floating around the words.

Triangles—Of course my favorite embellishments are the trio of triangles that match the Kaleidoscope DSP.  I stamped the three images in Strawberry Slush, Crushed Curry and Bermuda Bay, then punched them with the Triangle Punch and popped them up with Dimensionals.

I was having fun playing around, repositioning the triangles!  So many options for pointing them up or down, or grouping them in an overlapping collage or in a line.  Fun, fun, fun!

Jodi recently made these cute party favors to hold Hershey's chocolates. It's a variation of a box that Susan Itell created and you can see complete instructions at her Simple Stampin blog.  Jodi used the Winter Frost Designer Series Paper Stack to set the theme and topped it off with a Festive Flurry Framelits snowflake in Silver Glimmer Paper.

Have you seen the beautiful Christmas Star single stamp?  Peggy used it here to create a gorgeous 3D embellishment.

Just stamp the star, cut it out, and fold it on the lines from the points to the center.  Even the pretty floral patter on the star gives it an embossed look.  There's a whole collection of Single Holiday Stamps still available through the end of the year.

Created by Carmen DeBruce.  Color combo: Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, Gumball Green and Whisper White.

Carmen shared a couple of cool decorated notepads that she is giving as gifts this year.  The first one is decorated with the Season of Style Designer Series Paper and features the cute snowman from Snow Day  (wood).  It's a larger, 5x8" version of the Post-It Note Holder that Carmen shared with us last year.

I love how she made the snowman looking up!  Haha!  He's holding a banner stamped with the images from A Banner Christmas (wood).  Notice that she also used the Window Frame Framelits to create a decorative edge on the top of the tag.  Great idea!

Carmen made a second version (that's Two Cool versions!) using the Festive Flurry Bundle (wood) as the theme. I love the random stamping of the snowflakes are accented with a die-cut snowflake embellishment.

Rita - pumpkins - two cool copy

Earlier this month, Rita Berning, part of my Too Cool Demo Team, showed us how to make a cute pumpkin card at our team shoebox swap.  Then, she gave me a similar card with a larger pumpkin for my birthday.  I love how she used the same basic design elements in two cool ways!

Our shoebox swap card started with an Early Espresso vertical card base and Crumb Cake background layer.

Pumpkin Layers—The pumpkin is created with three Pumpkin Pie die-cuts from the Ovals Collection Framelits die measuring 2-1/4" tall.  We stamped each layer in Pumpkin Pie ink with the chevron pattern from the Oh, Hello stamp set, then sponged more ink around the edges for depth. 

Pumpkin Stem—The Chocolate Chip stem is cut free-hand, and textured with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder.  The leave is die-cut from the Secret Garden Framelits from Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper.

Banners & Sentiment—We layered three fish-tailed banners at the bottom of the card: a 1-1/4" wide and 2" wide strip from Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper, and a 1-1/8" wide strip for the sentiment. 

The Seasonal Sayings greeting was inked in Pumpkin Pie, then sponged around the edges.  We used the Chevron Border Punch on one of the DSP banners and layered that on Old Olive card stock. 

We finished off the card by tying a piece of Linen Thread around the card.  Love those details!

After our shoebox swap was done and everyone had left, I found this pretty pumpkin birthday card in my kitchen...Rita's so sneaky!

Larger Pumpkin—This time, the pumpkin was made with 2-5/8" high Ovals Collection Framelit, stamped and sponged like before. 

Backround Details—I love the Woodgrain embossing on the Crumb Cake background for added texture.  And, instead of DSP banners, Rita used a combination of the Season of Style Old Olive Washi Tape and the Witches' Brew Pumpkin Pie Washi Tape.  I love the In Color Boutique Details embellishment, too!

Pumpkin Stem—The hand-cut pumpkin stem was embossed with the Fancy Fan Folder, and she added a cute Chocolate Chip curly-q strip that is adorable!  The leaves are once again cut from the Secret Garden Framelits from Epic Day DSP.

Sentiment—The words are from Fabulous Phrases stamp set, but "birthday" didn't fit on her tag, so she shortened the word by coloring only part of it with an Early Espresso marker.  Wow, she's good at lining that up!  The tags are punched with the retired Jewelry Tag Punch then wrapped around the stem with some retired Lucky Limeade Baker's Twine.

Wow Techniques Class: Scallop Circle Tri-Fold

  • When: Friday, August 9, 2013, at 6:30pm.
  • Where: My Too Cool Stamping Studio, Fort Wayne, IN
  • What: We'll create three "wow" cards using fun, more advanced techniques.  Envelopes included.
  • Cost: $15 or FREE with a minimum order placed at the event.*
  • Who: This class is designed for stampers who want to go beyond the basics, but even new stampers are welcome!  We'll get you up to speed!

Circle scallop fold - two cool

This is the first set of Two Cool cards for the Wow Techniques Class!  Class attendees will be able to choose which version they'd like to create—how cool is that?!!

I've been wanting to try this unique tri-fold card for awhile, and when I received one as a Convention swap from Trudy Freas (above right), it sealed the deal!  Her card was so cute that I CASEd it exactly, adding a few extra stepped-up details.

The card base is Melon Mambo.  I added a 4-1/4" x 1-1/4" layer of Pear Pizzazz card stock behind the 4-1/4" x 1" strip of Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper.

It's a vertical tri-fold, so you lift the top, then open the bottom to reveal lots of space for writing.  When it's folded, it's sized to fit in a A2 Medium Envelope.

Circle Scallop Tri-Fold Instructions

  • Start with a standard vertical card base: 4-1/4" x 11".
  • Score along the 11" side at 4-1/8" and 8-1/2".
  • Position the 2-1/2" Circle Punch over the 8-1/2" score line so the fold is in the center of the circle and the card stock is in the punch as far as it will go.  Punch!
  • Punch a 2-3/8" Scallop Circle.  With the card folded closed, adhere the scallop circle to the top of the card that shows through the semi-circle hole.  I used a little bit of Sticky Strip, along with SNAIL, to keep it in place securely.
  • Decorate!

I stamped the Best of Birthdays image in Night of Navy on Very Vanilla, then colored it in with Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizzazz ink and a Blender Pen.  It's punched with the 1-3/4" Circle Punch and layered on a Daffodil Delight scallop circle.  My card has some Dazzling Diamonds on the frosting, added with the 2-Way Glue Pen.

I love the pop of color with the Night of Navy Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon tied through the window.

The front flap is punched with the Scallop Edge Border Punch. I stepped up the card by adding a strip of 4-1/4" x 1/2' Melon Mambo card stock, texture embossed with the Needlepoint Border Folder, and accented with Rhinestone Jewels.

I love how the Halloween version turned out!  I used Pumpkin Pie card stock for the base, with Summer Starfruit and Witches' Brew DSP for the card base.  I changed the positioning of the ribbon and used Black 1/8" Taffeta.

I colored the Tags 4 You "trick or treat" image with Pumpkin Pie and Black Markers onto Whisper White, then glittered up with some Dazzling Diamonds.  I used the coordinating Label Bracket Punch to cut it out and another black punch-out was cut in half for the second layer.  They're both mounted on a Summer Starfruit scallop circle.

The "cute" skull from the Halloween Hello gives a great balance to the card, as well as helping to keep the card closed.  I punched it out with the 1-1/4" Circle Punch and adhered it with a couple Dimensionals, just barely overlapping the scalloped edge.  Like the Rhinestone eyeballs?  Teehee!

Easter Bunny Escape Card

I caught a glimpse of the Easter bunny, "butt" it looks like he's getting away through the knot-hole in that tree!  I can't resist a cute bunny butt!  If you have all of the punches, this is a quick and easy card to make!

I used the Woodgrain Texture Impressions Folder to emboss the 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Crumb Cake card stock, then I punched a hole with the 2-1/2" Circle Punch.  I added a 3" x 3" piece of Early Espresso behind the hole to give it depth.

I punched a 2-1/2" Circle and two Scallop Ovals in Whisper White for the butt and feet.  Both were sponged with Pretty In Pink ink.  I also punched two Large Ovals from Pretty in Pink for the bottoms of the feet.  The pads are made with circles from the Owl Punch. 

What do you think of my fluffy tail?  I used one of the rosettes from the Flower Trim, lightly sponged with Pretty In Pink, then layered it on a Pretty In Pink Boho Blossoms shape.  TIP: Use Multipurpose Tombow glue to attach the rosette for best results.

I finished off the card by adding a 1" tall strip of 2011 In Color Designer Series Paper in Lucky Limeade stripes to match the card base and simulate grass.  It was punched with the Scallop Edge Border Punch, then wrapped with the Old Olive Striped Organdy Ribbon.

The Teeny Tiny Wishes sentiment was stamped in Early Espresso, then double-punched with the Word Window punch to shorten the shape a bit.
