It's technically still summer, but the leaves are already starting to fall here in Indiana. I love the beautiful colors of fall! Today's projects, featuring Falling For Leaves, celebrates the colorful leaves of autumn with an easy, watercoloring technique!
But first, there is only ONE WEEK left to register for the Making Christmas Bright Class-To-Go Kit, the first of four classes from my Countdown To Christmas Series!

Falling For Leaves Shimmer Wash Cards
Background Basics—I started stamping branch from the Falling For Leaves stamp set in Rich Razzleberry ink onto the Cajun Craze card base to provide a foundation for the focal point.
Next, I stamped the Falling For Leaves sentiment in Rich Razzleberry ink onto a 5-1/2" x 1-1/2" strip of Petal Pink, as far to the right as possible. I adhered that to the card base, then adhered a 5-1/2" x 1/2" strip of Copper Foil across the top of the strip.
Shimmer Wash Leaf—I stamped the large Falling For Leaves maple leaf in Rich Razzleberry ink onto Shimmery White cardstock. For the watercolor effect, I used an Aqua Painter and the Rich Razzleberry and Cajun Craze ink pads. I squeezed the ink pads before opening to transfer some ink to the lid to create a palette, then picked up the color and brushed it over the leaf with a wet brush tip The stamped image will bleed a little and wash out some color as well, which is part of the technique. I left a few areas bare to really make the washed areas pop. Check out that shimmer that shines through from the Shimmery White paper! It's a fantastic alternative to watercolor paper, too, because it has a little bit of a finish on the surface that allows the colors to blend flawlessly!
I finished by die-cutting the image with the Detailed Leaves Thinlits.
Bundle It & SAVE—Purchase the Falling For Leaves stamp set and the Detailed Leaves Thinlits together as a bundle and save 10%!
Finishing Touches—I added some loops of Copper Metallic Thread behind the leaf to pick up the shine in the copper foil strip. First, I covered the back of the leaf with SNAIL adhesive, then I wrapped the thread around my four fingers about 6 times, twisted it into a figure-8 shape and laid it on the sticky back. That holds the threads in place allowing you to arrange the loops in a pleasing way. I popped up the leaf with Dimensionals and topped it with a Gold Faceted Gem.
Two Cool—For the second version, I started with Shaded Spruce stamped images on a Shaded Spruce card base. The sentiment was stamped in Shaded Spruce onto Soft Sea Foam. I used Silver Foil for the accent strip.
Shimmer Leaf—The leaf is stamped in Shaded Spruce, too, then washed with Balmy Blue, Pool Party and Soft Sea Foam inks.
Finishing Touches—I added Silver Metallic Thread on this one and topped it with a Clear Faceted Gem. Pretty!
