Hi Stamping Friends!

One of my favorite things to do each year when we get new In Colors is to see how the colors compare to other colors in the collection. Coming this June, Stampin' Up! is doing a complete Color Revamp with not only 5 new In Colors, but 6 returning favorites and 10 brand new colors, as well!  WOW!

Color Swatches—It took a little time, but I finally had a chance to go through ALL 21 of the new colors and see how they compared to other colors we already know.  It was so interesting to see how they stacked up against colors in our current collections, retiring colors and even some old favorites from the past.  I put together some comparison swatches for each of the new and returning colors, just to see them in relation to other colors. Enjoy this in-depth look at the amazing new colors!

Color Accuracy Disclaimer—The colors you're seeing are not going to be 100% accurate!  Between the lighting in my studio, my camera, the monitor I used for photoediting and the screen you're using to view them, there are just too many variables impacting the colors to have them be true. I noticed that the purples were especially impacted. But, hopefully, you'll get a better idea of how the colors fall into the spectrum of similar colors in relation to each other.

2018 new in colors5 NEW 2018-2020 In Colors

Let's start with the brand new In Colors!  Remember, In Colors are trendy colors that are only available for 2 years.  Each year we gain 5; while 5 will retire.  This year's In Colors are bright & cheerful and remind me of primary colors!

Lovely lipstick
Lovely Lipstick—A deep, rich red with a hint of pink, just like your favorite lipstick!  Not as pink as Melon Mambo & not as red as Real Red; it's somewhere in-between.  It will be a nice, brighter replacement for the retiring Rose Red, bringing us a beautiful color for flowers and a trendy new red for Christmas!

Grapefruit grove

Grapefruit Grove—A pretty pastel orange color with a hint of pink!  It's a bit darker than Peekaboo Peach with about the same darkness as Flirty Flamingo.  It's a much more subdued orange than the bright new yellow-orange Mango Melody.  Grapefruit Grove will be a nice replacement for the retiring Peekaboo Peach, which I was very sad to lose.  I had to add the old Crisp Cantaloupe comparison from years ago, because this color reminded me of it.

Pineapple punch

Pineapple Punch—I've noticed a trend toward brighter brights and Pineapple Punch is a great example!  Where Daffodil Delight is a sunny warm yellow, this color is a little cooler and much more vibrant!  It will pair well with other brilliant brights in the In Color line-up!

Call me clover

Call Me Clover—If you took a little blue out of the retiring Emerald Envy, you'd end up with Call Me Clover.  It's about the same intensity, just a little more green.  I love it paired with the new Shaded Spruce and it will be a fun addition to our Christmas combinations!

Blueberry Bushel

Blueberry Bushel—Finally, we have a basic blue back in our repertoire!  Blueberry Bushel is a nice, primary, royal blue shade that is reminiscent of, but brighter than, the old Brilliant Blue that many were sad to see retire. It's a darker shade than Pacific Point and a truer blue than retiring Dapper Denim. It will be perfect for patriotic cards and nautical themes!

30571417_10214274088880263_1611140024839962624_n10 Brand NEW Colors For The Revamp!

Stampin' Up! has added 10 new colors to our line-up to help round out our color collections!  We're seeing several blues, greens and purples retire and some fresh, more up-to-date shades have been added into the mix!

New - merry merlot

Merry Merlot—Like a fine red wine, Merry Merlot has a rich, burgundy hue.  It's a bit deeper and richer maroon compared to the popular Cherry Cobbler.  I was surprised how closely it paired up to Rich Razzleberry, so there's just a hint of a purplish tone, too.  If you remember Bravo Burgundy from years past, it's a darker version of that.  This is another beautiful, more traditional option for vintage-style Christmas cards!  One more surprising detail…it's one of the three colors that will be part of the Neutrals Collection, along with Night of Navy and Mossy Meadow.  That should tell you right there just how versatile this red will be!

New - granite gray

Gray Granite—Please tell me I'm not the only one to get excited about a "boring" gray color!  I was disappointed that Tip Top Taupe did not make a comeback, but I'm thrilled with this warmer Gray Granite option!  I think it makes sense to have several grays, especially since it's so big in home décor right now.  Now if I could only remember the name: It's Gray Granite…not Granite Gray like I have on the swatch. Ooops!

New - mango melody

Mango Melody—What a bright and cheery yellow-orange color!  It totally reminds me of school bus yellow!  It's more yellow than Peekaboo Peach & Grapefruit Grove, and more orange than Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry.  This will be a lovely addition to our floral colors to really make the blooms pop!

New - granny apple green

Granny Apple Green—Oooh, what a fun spring green!  Granny Apple Green will look amazing for leaves & foliage along with all of the brighter flower colors!  It's not as dark or yellow as Old Olive and not as cool as retiring Wild Wasabi.  It's kind of a darker version of Lemon Lime Twist and a brighter version of Pear Pizzazz!

New - shaded spruce

Shaded Spruce—I see a new go-to Christmas color!  I'm loving the rich green with just a touch of blue in Shaded Spruce!  It's a darker version of retiring Emerald Envy and a little richer and more vibrant version of Tranquil Tide, with maybe a hint of yellow.  It's kind of like if somebody blew the dust off of Tranquil Tide and polished it up with Lemon Pledge, you'd have Shaded Spruce.

New - petal pink

Petal Pink—I'm really enjoying that Stampin' Up! has swapped out the retiring cool Pink Pirouette for a more peachy pink like Petal Pink.  We needed something in this soft, warm shade.  It's a very light version of the new Grapefruit Grove color, which I didn't even include because it was so dark in comparison.  Petal Pink really helps to round out the subtles collection.

New - soft seafoam
Soft Sea Foam
Speaking of really light, the Soft Sea Foam is a super-light version of the old Pistachio Pudding.  It's such a light pastel, it makes Pool Party and Mint Macaron look like medium shades!  What a pretty addition to the greens!

New - balmy blue
Balmy BlueIf you mixed the retiring Soft Sky with the retiring Marina Mist, you might have something close to Balmy Blue!  I've always felt like Soft Sky was too close in color to Pool Party, so this gives us an option for a darker "sky" color.  It's also a refreshing, lighter replacement for Marina Mist.

New - highland heather

Highland Heather—I'm so, so happy that we have some new purples in the collection!  Highland Heather is very reminiscent of the old Lavender Lace from many years ago.  It's a much more vibrant color than Wisteria Wonder and certainly less grayish!  I had trouble coming up with comparisons for this color, because we really don't have anything like this one.  This brighter shade fits very nicely with the other updated, brighter colors!

  New - gorgeous grape

Gorgeous GrapeI was super-sad to see Elegant Eggplant go, mostly because it's one of my Too Cool logo colors. But, if it must go, at least we have some new purples we can play with instead. Gorgeous Grape is reminiscent of the old Lovely Lilac and I love it's deep, bluish tone.  This color looks amazing with the new Highland Heather and complements the brighter spectrum of colors so nicely.

Color-collections

6 Returning Favorites Round Out The Collections!

It's so fun to see many of our favorite In Colors returning to be part of our new Color Collections Revamp!  Woohoo!  You'll notice that they took Basic Black, Very Vanilla and Whisper White out of this line and put them on their own Basics Collection to make room for a few new colors!  Now we'll have 3 colors in the neutrals palette, because they are go-to versatile colors.  The other collections have a rounded out spectrum of colors for limitless possibilities!  Let's take a look at how those returning colors compare!

Returning - mossy meadow

Mossy MeadowOh happy day!  The rich, earthy green of Mossy Meadow far surpasses the out-dated look of Always Artichoke!  It's another gorgeous deep, dark green that looks amazing with both foliage and Christmas!  It's officially designated as a neutral color because of it's versatility.  I like the way it pairs with the lighter Old Olive and how amazing it looks with Blackberry Bliss…

Returning - blackberry bliss

Blackberry BlissAgain, if Elegant Eggplant must go, I'm pleased that at least Blackberry Bliss is returning!  It's a lovely, darker version of Rich Razzleberry and looks like another shade of wine next to Merry Merlot.

Returning - mint macaron

Mint Macaron—Welcome back, lovely Mint Macaron!  With all the new pastel shades, this soft green will fit in nicely!  It looks amazing with darker colors, too, like Tranquil Tide, Blackberry Bliss and Soft Suede.  Love this one!

Returning - coastal cabana

Coastal Cabana—Has there has ever been a more popular In Color than Coastal Cabana?!  I don't know of a soul who dislikes it, and most were so sorry to see it retire.  How awesome that it is back with a whole new palette of color playmates!  Yippee!

Returning - poppy parade

Poppy ParadeThe returning Poppy Parade is another case of filling in some gaps in the color collections.  We really did need an orange-red option, so bringing back the gorgeous Poppy Parade makes a lot of sense!  I think I'm going to love this one more now than I did back when it was an In Color.  Can't wait to try out some new color combos!

Returing - flirty flamingo

Flirty FlamingoWe haven't even officially said goodbye to the outgoing In Color Flirty Flamingo and it's already found a permanent spot in the color family!  It was certainly one of my favorites among the In Colors!  Awesome!

  1. I am glad to see the returning group of colors… mint Macaron, coastal Cabana, etc.
And, except for a very few, I don’t care for most of the “new”colors. I would like to know what other stampers think of them.
