High Tide By Your Side Layered Stamping Cards

Hi Stamping Friends!

The beautiful High Tide stamp set is my focus again today!  Do you enjoy lighthouses?  I love them!  There is something so calming and a little mysterious about them.  My very favorite lighthouse is actually a miniature one!

Lake George lighthouse

My Peaceful Place—When I was growing up, we had a cottage on Lake George on the Indiana/Michigan line and our cottage was directly across the bay from a small, yet fully-functional lighthouse.  In the early evenings, I would swing on our porch swing, listening to my favorite tunes on my Walkman, and watch the lighthouse, transfixed by the blue, yellow, green and purple lights that went around and around.  These times, with the warm breeze gently caressing my face, and the smell of the lake, and the trail of boat lights puttering by, were some of the most relaxing and peaceful moments of my life!  I wasn't able to find an up-close photo of that lighthouse, but you can see the silhouette of it on the beautiful sunset photo above.  Ahhhh…I wish I could go back there!

Old mission - traverse city

Mission Point Lighthouse

My other favorite lighthouse is the Mission Place Lighthouse at the tip of the Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City.  It's not the traditional lighthouse look…it kind of looks like a church!  I love this area of Michigan and it has a special place in my heart!  I visited this lighthouse on my honeymoon!

Do you have a favorite lighthouse?  Which ones do you recommend?  Tell me in the comments section at the bottom of this blog page (here if you're reading this via email).

High Tide By Your Side Cards

I used lots of stamps from the High Tide set for this lovely seaside card. The images work so well together and you'll be amazed at how quickly this serene scene comes to life!  In the time it takes to get your stamps, blocks and inks out, you can have a half-dozen of these card fronts stamped!

Stamped Layers—My stamping begins on a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White.  Here are the steps I took, in order:
  • Stamp the solid 3-part lighthouse image in Cherry Cobbler ink.  TIP: Use a Piercing Mat underneath for a crisp, solid transfer of ink.
  • Stamp the detailed lighthouse image in Crumb Cake over the top.  TIP: Look directly down over the stamp to get this one lined up.  I recommend doing some practice stamping first.
  • Stamp the large sand image in Crumb Cake ink under the lighthouse.  It has a lighthouse-shaped notch cut out of it, so it will fit around the bottom without needing to mask it.

  • Fill in the bottom of the layer with the smaller sand image with Crumb Cake ink.
  • Stamp the water image on either side of the lighthouse in Pool Party ink.  Get as close as you can to the edge of the lighthouse and sand.
  • Fill in the blank spots of the water with the tiny waves image.  I love how that one little stamp allows you to "fix" any missing water quickly an easily!  Too Cool!
  • Stamp the sand pipers in Archival Black Ink on the shore. TIP: Be sure to use the Archival Ink for a more opaque image.  If you look closely, you can see that the background images are showing through my birds because I used Memento Black Ink.  You'll get better results with the Archival version.
  • Stamp the seagulls along the top left corner in Archival Black Ink.

Finishing Touches—I mounted the stamped layer onto a 3-7/8" piece of Soft Suede card stock.  I cut off a strand of twine from the 5/8" wide Burlap Ribbon—I love pulling the strands apart to use separately—and tied it around the layers for some natural texture.  It's all mounted on a Night of Navy card base.

This Little Light—Don't miss the large Rhinestone Jewel that I added to the lighthouse to represent the light!  Perfect!

Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the High Tide sentiment onto Whisper White card stock with Archival Black Ink, then die-cut a square shape with the Stitched Shapes Framelits and popped up with Dimensionals.

Two Cool—The second card is the same basic design…I just swapped the Cherry Cobbler and Night of Navy colors on the card base and lighthouse.

I also tied two strands from Burlap Ribbon for a little more "weight" to the string, so it shows up better.

  1. one of my favorite lighthouses is the
dungeness light house in Sequim, WA. I lived
in the area for about 7 years. I never made the hike out to the lighthouse, maybe someday!
Dungeness Bay is also known for Dungeness
    Crabs!!

  2. Fantastic cards, Angie. I wish I could attend the class. I never thought of light houses in Michigan. But, of course, you need them at lakes, too. My favorite lighthouse is the one in St. Michaels, Maryland. It’s actually the preserved version of the Hooper Straight Lighthouse. I hope everyone can view it from this link: http://cbmm.org/event/community-day-cbmm/.

  3. My favorite lighthouses are in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
I walked up 3 of them, a couple times huffing & puffing to
get to the top!! Love the cards, too! Brings back memories.
