Winter Wonderland Double-Pocket Pouches
The theme for our team swap was an "anything but a card" Christmas project. I couldn't decide on whether to do a treat holder or a gift card holder, so I created a project that you could use for both—a Double-Pocket Pouch!
Two Cool Pairs of Pouches—I selected the gorgeous Winter Wonderland Designer Series Paper for these projects, so I could dress up my pouches all elegant & fancy in black & gold! I made two cool versions in three styles of paper, so I could try each of their double-sided paper patterns. The snowflakes and gold stripes combination is my absolute favorite! So classy!
Double-Pocket Pouch Basics—I originally tried this project several years ago after learning how to make it on Dawn Olchefske's DO Stamping blog: Double Pocket Pouch Video. I've listed the basic steps below. The best part is that there's no glue necessary!
- Start with an 8x8" square piece of designer paper.
- Using the Simply Scored Diagonal Plate, score at the "zero" mark, corner to corner.
- Without moving the paper, score diagonally again at the 3/4" mark along the top, and the 3/4" mark along the side, giving you three parallel, diagonal score lines.
- Turn your paper 90°, then score diagonally at the 2-3/4" mark along the top, and the 2-3/4" mark along the side.
- Fold along the 2-3/4" marks, so the points of the paper you want showing overlap.
- Fold the pockets in half along that first score line, pocket-to-pocket.
- Fold the pockets back along the 3/4" scores, so it becomes a "W" fold with the pockets facing outward.
- Holding the top points together, punch a hole at the top with the Small Oval Punch or 1" Circle Punch and tie closed with ribbon.
- Decorate your pouches!
Very Versatile—These cute little pouches are perfect for a small holiday gift or stocking stuffer. You could even hang them on a tree! And, the pockets will hold small, flat treats, like Ghirardelli Chocolates, as well as gift cards or cash!
Double Pockets—This gusseted pouch stands on it's own and has a pocket in the front and back, so you could fill it with two gift cards, two chocolates, or one of each! What a treat!
Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the Flurry of Wishes greeting in Memento Black ink onto Whisper White, then punched it out with the 2" Circle Punch. It's popped up with Dimensionals over a 2-3/8" Scallop Circle in Gold Foil. That layer is popped up, as well.
TIP: Add three Dimensionals below the "V" of the actual pouch instead of adding them to the back of the scallop circle, so you don't have to worry about the Dimensional sticking the pocket shut...not that that has ever happened to me...<whistles>.
Altered Snowflake—I added some White Craft Ink to the wooden Snowflake Elements accent, then used a Heat Tool to dry and set the ink. It's attached with a Dimensional and topped with a Rhinestone Jewel.
Two Cool—My second pair of pouches are made with the winter pine boughs patterns of the Winter Wonderland DSP. So soft and pretty!
Hanger Hole—After the pouches are assembled, I would normally want to punch the handle hole with the Small Oval Punch, but do you think I could find that in my studio? Heavens no! I looked for two days! Oh well, the 1" Circle Punch worked just fine.
Bow Toppers—I love the look of layered ribbons to add elegance and texture! I tied a 3/8" Basic Black Stitched Satin Ribbon through the handle and draped a 5" strand of Gold Sequins Trim through the knot before tying it into a bow. Then, I added a Gold Cording Trim bow over the top.
Three Cool—My final pair of pouches features the gold pine cone pattern of Winter Wonderland DSP.
Complete Supplies List—"Clear mount" is a rubber stamp to be used on a clear acrylic block, "Photopolymer" is the see-thru style of stamps, also used with acrylic blocks.
