Hi Stamping Friends!

I'm definitely getting hooked on challenges!  How about this one?!

Pals color challenge 210

Today, I took on the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge #210.  I love this color combination and I thought it would give the perfect mood for a sympathy card, which I just happen to need for our Team Shoebox Swap event next week.

Pals world of dreams - two cool

Stampin' Up! has several silhouette stamp sets that work great for a serene image on a sympathy card.  I chose the newest one called World of Dreams.  Paired up with the emboss resist technique, these images offer a pretty and peaceful focal point.

Background Stamping Basics—The background is stamped with the large Dictionary background stamp in Smoky Slate.  Even though it wasn't one of the colors in the challenge, I wanted the background to be subtle.

After inking the rubber, I set the stamp rubber-side-up on the table, then laid a piece of 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" Whisper White card stock and very lightly and randomly rubbed over it.  This left some areas white or very lightly stamped for a more distressed look.

I framed the layer with a 3-5/8" x 4-3/78" piece of Basic Gray card stock.

Border Accents—I used the folksy flourish from the Chalk Lines border stamp set inked in Pool Party to decorate the 3-1/2" x 1" Pool Party element at the bottom.

After wrapping some Lost Lagoon Stitched Satin Ribbon around the entire piece, I adhered it to the Lost Lagoon card base.

Emboss Resist Focal Point—I inked the wildflower image in VersaMark and stamped onto Whisper White.  After sprinkling it with White Embossing Powder and tapping off the excess, I heated it with the Heat Tool until glossy & smooth.

Next, I sponged Pool Party ink in a small circular motion all around the image using a lighter touch as I got further away.  To really make the leaves pop, I finished up by sponging with the Lost Lagoon ink directly over the image.  I tried to keep the darker ink closer to the image and leave the lighter color around the outer edges.  TIP: Wipe the image with a tissue to eliminate any resisted ink that may have pooled onto the embossed areas.  You don't want that ink ending up somewhere else on your card by accident.

Die-Cut LayersI die-cut the emboss resisted element with the Ovals Collection Framelits, then layered that onto a Labels Collection Framelit die-cut from Basic Gray.  They are adhered together with SNAIL and popped up with Dimensionals.

Finishing Touches—I wanted to stick with a small sentiment to not take away from the iamge, so I chose the sympathy phrase from Teeny Tiny Wishes (must-have alert!).  It's stamped in Basic Gray ink, die-cut with the Bitty Banners Framelits and popped up.

A Pearl Jewel in each corner of the label gives the card a little more texture and personality.

I changed up a few things on the second version of the card, starting with the birds nest image from World of Dreams.  It worked great for the horizontal orientation.

The background is stamped with the natural-looking Hardwood stamp.  I couldn't really use the Dictionary stamp on this one, because the words would have been on their sides.  I'm way too OCD for that.  LOL!

Finally, I tried out a different border design from the Chalk Lines set for the side element, and I quickly discovered that it mimics the lines in the ribbon.  It's actually not my favorite look here where they are side-by-side, but I'll keep that in mind so I can play around with those two coordinating elements on future projects.
