Today, I'm sharing one of the two cool card designs we'll be creating for the class!

Color Me polka dots - two cool

Oh my!  I think these characters in the Color Me Christmas set are completely adorable!  I gave a little twist to this Circle Card Thinlit design by making it horizontal.

Color Me polka dots - deer 1

CASEd from Sandi MacIver at Stamping With Sandi.

DSP Accents: I also added an extended flap for a tri-fold style opening.  I added a strip of 3/4" x 4-1/4" Season of Style Designer Series Paper to the left side for a fun pop of color.  The extended flap has another pattern from the same DSP pack measuring 3-1/2" x 4".

Ribbon: I wrapped the extended flap with some White Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon and tied it into a faux bow.  My class attendees will get a whole spool to use on their projects, then take the rest home for their own projects!  Bonus!

How To Make A Horizontal Extended Flap Card

  • Start with card stock that is 11" x 4-1/4".
  • Insert the left side of the card stock under the Circle Card Thinlit, so that it will cut that side only
  • Bring the right side of the card stock through the die to lay on top of of the right side of the Thinlit, so that side will not be cut.
  • Run it through the Big Shot, but stop after the center cut circle goes through and back it out.  This will eliminate a crease in your card stock that you don't want.
  • Score at the 7" mark and fold the panel to make your extended flap.
  • Decorate!

Circle Focal Point: I stamped the cute reindeer with permanent StazOn Black onto Whisper White, then colored him in with inks and a Blender Pen.  I love coloring with a Blender Pen because colors blend together easily, reducing stroke lines that you might get with regular markers.

Painting With Blender Pens: I squoosh my ink pads before opening them to get some ink on the inside lid, then use the Blender Pen like a paint brush to pick up ink from the lid to color.  I used Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Baked Brown Sugar ink here.

By the way, class attendees will receive a Blender Pen in their kit to use and take home!  Bonus!

I punched the finished image with the 2-1/2" Circle Punch and adhered it to the card circle panel.

Candy Dots: My class kits also come with Bright Candy Dots, so you can add a Real Red nose to your reindeer, and a couple of Old Olive accents at the bottom of the card.  Bonus!

Color Me polka dots - deer 4

Inside Accents: The inside of the card has another Circle Punch stamped with a phrase from Christmas Messages, and a matching greeting on the inside.  The bottom has a 1/2" x 3-1/2" strip of coordinating Season of Style paper.

I stamped and colored the present on scrap card stock, then cut it out to adhere it over the DSP strip.

Color Me polka dots - santa

Mix It Up! As usual, I created a second card with the same supplies, so you can see the versatility.  I love that all of the images in the Color Me Christmas stamp set are about the same size, so you can mix it up and use any one you like!  We'll be making 6 of this card style at class, so you can try out every image from the set if you want!

The santa image is one of my favorites, all colored in Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black inks. Cute!

I flipped over my skinny strip of Season of Style paper to show the candy cane stripes…oh, how perfect!
