Hi Stamping Friends!

Happy Halloween!  It's supposed to be rainy and stormy here in Fort Wayne, IN, all day, so not the best weather for trick-or-treating.  But, it's perfect weather for hanging out in my stamp room! 

And, that's just what I'm gonna do!  This post is short and sweet, so I can get back to cutting supplies for my Countdown To Christmas class coming up this weekend.  Can't wait!

My friend Debbie Groulik came over to stamp with me at my Anything Goes Open Stamp Night last Sunday, and she was working on a project that was "wicked-cool!" 

Her goal was to create a little momento for her friends when they go to see the musical, "Wicked."  So she set out to decorate one of the empty Wood-Mount Stamp Cases, to be filled later with goodies.

This was the mock-up she put together for the case fronts!  Is that Wicked witch awesome, or what?!  She's made with the Dress Up Framelits and several other punches!  She was inspired by Elizabeth Swerm's project at Elizabeth Stamps, and you can find all the instructions for making it there.

The dress is made with several of layers of the dress die-cuts, all embossed with the Beautifully Baroque Texture Impressions Folder. 

The "Wicked" banner is stamped with the Sketched Alphabet letters in Basic Grey. 

Also features: Extra Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Pennant Builder Punch, and the Floral Frames Collection Framelits.

It's almost Trick-or-Treat time!  I've got a couple more Halloween treat holder ideas for those special ghosts and goblins! 

Halloween treats - witch hat

Triangle boxes are always cute and very easy to make for last-minute treats!  You can dress up the basic box shape into all kinds of Halloween characters and Fall styles, as you can see on an old blog post of mine: Halloween & Fall Triangle Boxes.

Create Your Own Triangle Box—You can find the basic Triangle Box Tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers.  Check it out, then play around with the sizes and embellishments to fit whatever theme you're trying to achieve.

My Witch's Hat Measurements—I started with a half sheet of card stock, 4-1/4" x 11" folded in half.  Mark the center point along the top and bottom, then simply add score lines from the center fold to the 2-1/8" center points of the edges for the basic shape.

Fold it closed then punch holes in the flaps and thread a ribbon through to tie it closed.  Easy peasy!

I added a separate black layer on the front that's texture embossed with the Chevron Folder for a little more detail. 

Hat Band—My witch hat triangle box is minimally decorated with 1" wide strip of Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper hat band with a Rich Razzleberry Curly Label Punch buckle on top.  The buckle has a square of the same paper on top to look like it's woven through. 

Hat Brim—I hand-trimmed a tapered brim from a 6-1/2" x 1-1/4" piece of Black card stock, and added a little more texture with the Needlepoint Border Folder. 

It's all tied up with some Summer Starfruit Stitched Satin Ribbon.  And, boy-oh-boy, it holds LOTS of little treats!

My second easy-to-make treat holder is a make & take I created at Ronda Wade's Creative Convention.  Save those empty embellishment containers, then decorate them for all kinds of party favors! 

Decorating The Top—The 2-1/2" Circle Punch makes the perfect size circle to cover the top.  This one is in Pumpkin Pie and is embossed with the Houndstooth Folder and sponged with Pumpkin Pie ink. 

We stamped the "eat if you dare" image from the Halloween Bash (wood) set in Cherry Cobbler onto Naturals Ivory paper, then die-cut it with the Labels Collection Framelits.  It's layered on a black 1-3/4" Circle Punch, Old Olive hand-cut banner, and a loop of 1/8" Pumpkin Pie Taffeta Ribbon.

Then, just fill the container up with your favorite small candies!  Sweet!

Hi Stamping Friends! 

What a fun stamping weekend I had! I hope yours was just as enjoyable!

Last night, I had my first Anything Goes Open Stamp Night where stampers can bring their own projects to work on at my studio.  It was a small group, but it was great to have company while I worked on my card projects.  If you missed it, mark your calendars for the next one on Sunday, November 17 from 4-9pm.

I also had a private stamp-a-stack holiday card class with Gail K. and her friends on Saturday, and that was a blast, too!  I've been getting together with this group of stampers to make holiday cards every year for nearly a decade!  It's become a fun tradition for all of us!

Deck the halls keepsakes - two cool

This is one of the stamp-a-stack card designs that we created at Gail's private class!  It features the elegant images from the Ornament Keepsakes stamp set, which is still available on the 2013 Holiday Carryover List.

I love the unique use of these miniature ornaments as a strand of pretty Christmas lights!

Strand of Lights—I used a Black Marker to free-hand draw a looping line across my 5" x 3-3/4" Whisper White card stock.  Then, I stamped the ornaments in Real Red, Gumball Green and Melon Mambo and cut them out with the coordinating Holiday Ornaments Die Cuts (also still available!). The "bulbs" are popped up with Dimensionals and adorned with Pearl Jewels.

I especially love the "deck the halls" greeting from the Christmas Messages set!  Perfect!

Once everything was stamped, I layered it on a 5-1/4" x 4" piece of Basic Black card stock, then mounted it on a Real Red card base.

Mini Ornaments—My second card uses three different ornament images from Ornament Keepsakes in Gumball Green, Real Red and Pacific Point.  I used the Black Marker again to draw in the strings with bows.

Well, looky there!  That "deck the halls" works perfectly with this style, too!  Cool!

Hi Stamping Friends!

I've got a fun and easy technique to share with you today to help you snaz-up those handy, personalizable Tag A Bag Gift Boxes!  Have you seen them?

Tag A Bag Gift Boxes— They are an easy way to package gifts, treats and party favors for any occasion—perfect for holiday gift-giving!  You get 8 food-safe, kraft boxes with see-thru, acetate sleeve.  Boxes measure 6-7/8" x 2-1/8" x 2-1/2". 

It's fun to stamp on them, cover them with designer paper, add embellishments, or even dress them up quickly with the coordinating Tag A Bag Accessories Kit.  But, did you know that you can also texture emboss them? It's definitely Too Cool!

I decorated sleeve of this Tag A Bag Gift Box in a wintery theme and added some beautiful textured accents!

OOOooohh!  The Pretty Prints Embossing Folder IS very pretty on that acetate!  You should see it, and feel it, in person!

Texture Embossing On Gift Box Sleeves

The acetate sleeves come folded flat, and that is exactly how you want to run them through the Big Shot. 

Matching Up Textures—You can only do one half at at time, so depending on the texture you use, you may have to try to match up the patterns.  That's where the belly band cover-up really comes in handy!  The Pretty Print pattern has enough space between the lines that matching it up isn't an issue.

Big Shot Layers—You'll want to run the sleeve through your Big Shot with NO Tabs (that means both tabs are open), due to the double-thick acetate layer. 

Did You Know About The Shorter Folders?  I was delighted to discover that the two new texture impressions folders in the Holiday Catalog, Pretty Print and Stylish Stripes, were designed a little bit shorter than some of the folders in the Annual Catalog.  They are 6-1/4" long and will just barely fit through the width of the Big Shot opening, so you can you the patterns in either direction!  I'm so excited that they've changed the sizes for even more versatility! 

The longer 4-1/2" x 6-3/8" folders listed in the Annual Catalog are too wide to fit horizontally through the Big Shot.  The shorter 4-1/2" x 5-3/4" will fit through easily.  All measurements are listed by each folder in the catalog and in the online descriptions for easy reference.

I wrapped the sleeve with a belly band created from a 3" x 12" piece of Winter Frost Designer Series Paper.

What About The De-Bossed Sides? Since the sleeve is run through the machine folded, it will be embossed on two sides and debossed on the other two sides.  Trust me, you will hardly even notice it!  Click to enlarge this photo to see how unnoticable it is.

Snowflake Medallion—The top is decorated with snowflake layers from the Festive Flurry stamps and framelits bundle!  I stamped the flakes in Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Island Indigo and popped up each die-cut layer with Dimensionals.

The snowflake is accented with a Silver Ribbon bow, adhered with Glue Dots, and mounted on a Circle Collections Framelit die-cut of Silver Glimmer Paper.

This is my almost identical version of the project I saw, originally created by Becky Roberts. I love, Love, LOVE it!  Funny thing is that I don't typically like yellow and black combos...mostly because I'm an Indiana University basketball fan and black and gold is a little too "Purdue" for me.  Haha!  Sorry, Purdue fans!

Envelope Pouch Note Cards - dahlias 4

I love the unique presentation of a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" pull-out note card inside a matching pouch.  And, I love the gorgeous Regarding Dahlias images, beautifully stamped in Summer Starfruit, covering the entire outside of the pouch. It makes me clap my hands together and squeal (<<<I know some of you have witnessed this before!)

I don't love how crooked I stamped that black border image from the Mosaic Madness stamp set on the note card.  *sigh*

I love that the pouch is created with a Medium White Envelope, sealed up and trimmed about 3/4" of an inch from the end. Too Cool!

I love that the "hi," also from Regarding Dahlias, peeks out through a 1-3/4" Circle punched notch at the top.

And, in my only change to Becky's card, I love that the flower from the Fabulous Florets was the perfect size and image to coordinate with the dahlias!  It's punched with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch and layered on a 1-3/4" Scallop Circle in black.  The Summer Starfruit Stitched Satin Ribbon gives it a lovely finish, too!

(Can you tell I like it...just a little bit?)

Of course, I had to try it in another version, and I thought Festive Flurry would be a great choice in Coastal Cabana.  I really like how it turned out (but not as much as the dahlias!).

I stamped the smaller snowflake to make the medallion and the awesome alignment over the larger snowflake is just a happy coincidence!  I trimmed this one with Coastal Cabana Ruffled Stretch Trim.

Hi Stamping Friends!

I'd like to start with a big shout out to the newest members of my Too Cool Demo Team!   Welcome to Becky, Gail, Peggy, Linda and Pat!  I'm so excited you decided to join our amazing Stampin' Up! family!  Congratulations! You're about to take your love for stamping to a whole new level!  Woohoo!

Speaking of my Too Cool team...today's projects were two of the make & takes at our team meeting last week courtesy of team members Carmen DeBruce and Darla Eigenschink!

Carmen showed us how to create this mini Trick-or-Treat box big enough to hold either Ghirardelli chocolate squares or Hershey's Nuggets. 

She got the idea from Susan Itell and you can see complete instructions at her Simple Stampin blog.

This is a great basic treat box design that can be used for all kinds of occasions.  Change up the colors, designer paper, and Tags 4 You label to make it work for Thanksgiving, Christmas or Valentine's Day in a snap!  It's the perfect size for wedding or party favors, too!  So cute!

Supplies Used:  Summer Starfruit card stock, Simply Scored, Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper, Tags 4 You (wood), Label Bracket Punch OR Tags For You Bundle with punch (wood), Sticky Strip, Dimensionals, and SNAIL.

Darla shared this adorable little holder for cute ghost Peeps using the Apothecary Accents Framelits! 

Again, you could easily change up the designer papers and add a different, cute candy to "peep" out of the pocket.  A fast and easy treat for any occasion!

Since the Peeps are not individually wrapped, we stuck them in a Small Cello bag and tied them with baker's twine.

This idea was CASEd from Susan Campfield and you can see how to create it by watching her video tutorial: Ghost Peep Holder.

Supplies Used:  Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper, Apothecary Accents Framelits, Big Shot, 1/8" Black Taffeta, Halloween Hello (wood), 1-1/4" Scallop Circle Punch, 1" Circle Punch, Small Cello Bags, Calypso Coral Baker's Twine, Dimensionals and SNAIL

Crow congrats

CASEd from Tammy Dunlap at Crafty Tam.

I found this adorable card design by Tammy Dunlap during the Fall Blog Hop that I participated in earlier this month.  (Our next Holiday Blog Hop is November 6!)  I knew immediately that I needed to try making this cute punch art crow!  And, YOU can make it at this week's "Last Thursdays" class!

Background Elements—I started with a Pear Pizzazz card base, randomly stamped with the Off The Grid single stamp in Pear Pizzazz ink for some patterned texture. 

The Top Note die-cut shape is from the Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper and it's wrapped with a Pear Pizzazz Seam Binding faux bow.

Sentiment—I inked my Itty Bitty Banners stamp (◄one of the stamps ON SALE this week!) with the Old Olive and Basic Black Markers, then stamped on Whisper White card stock.  It's die-cut with the Bitty Banners Framelits, then trimmed flush to the edge and popped with Dimensionals.

Here are the punches I used for the cute crow:

  • Head—1-1/4" Circle Punch
  • Eyes—Owl Punch
  • Beak—1-1/4" Circle Punch, one quarter of it
  • Hat Top—1-1/4" Circle Punch
  • Hat Brim—Large Oval Punch
  • Hat Flower—Boho Blossoms & Itty Bitty Circle Punch
  • Body—Wide Oval Punch
  • Wings—2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch (trimmed into 2 pieces with 5 scallops each)
  • Feet—Boho Blossoms Punch

Texture Tips: I embossed the hat with the Square Lattice Folder and the body with the Woodgrain Folder for some texture.

Head Details—The hat is punched in Daffodil Delight & Crumb Cake, the beak is Daffodil Delight, and the flower is Soft Sky and Daffodil Delight.

Adhesive Tips: I like to use Tombow Multipurpose Glue to attach the pieces together.  I also popped up some of the elements with Dimensionals, like the eyes, beak, flower and body.

Cute Feet—The 1/8" Black Taffeta Ribbon legs are glued on with Multipurpose Glue, then left to dangle freely.  The Boho Blossom feet are folded in half and glued onto the ribbon ends.  Love those feet!
