Scallop Trim Punched Cross

I have another First Communion celebration this weekend, this time for my niece Maggie.  Since I don't currently have any cross stamps, I've had to be a little creative for these types of cards.

Last week, I showed you how to use the Lattice Die to create a beautiful cross design: Lattice Cross With Gilded Roses.  Today, we'll try another intricate cross design made with punches!

Here's my finished card!  The cross is punched with the Scallop Trim Corner Punch and the Scallop Trim Border Punch…isn't it cool?!!  I love the delicate scallop details…so pretty for any religious celebration!

I knew you'd want to know how to do it, so I created a pictorial of all the steps…

I started with a Whisper White card stock die-cut with the Top Note Die.

Punch cross - 1

1. Fold in half length-wise to get a crease down the middle to use as a guide.

Punch cross - 2

2. Open the piece, then fold the opposite side at the 1/3 mark.  This will be where the cross meets in the middle.

3. Slide the folded side into your Scallop Trim Corner Punch.  You'll want to line up the side with the center fold and the bottom edge should not touch your folded edge…it's just outside of it.  (click to enlarge the photo to see it better).  Punch!  Your piece should look like the photo on the right.

4. Flip the folded cardstock over and insert into the punch the same way.  This time both straight edges will not be touching the cardstock.  Punch!  It should look like the photo on the right.

Open it up and your piece should look like this!

5. Fold your piece length-wise again.

6. Insert the fold into the Scallop Trim Border Punch and line up the last punched scallop with the scallops on your punch.  Punch!

Unfold and you're done!  Lovely!

TIP #1: I ran the punched cross piece through my Big Shot with the Square Lattice Impressions Folder to remove the crease lines.  Actually, you can use any of the Impressions Folders to remove the fold lines.  The pressure of running it through the Big Shot, even with a pattern like the Perfect Polka Dots, will "iron out" most of your fold lines!  Yay!

TIP #2: You can minimize the crease lines by just making very light folds with no hard creases during the punching.

TIP #3: This technique works great with Designer Series Paper and you can even eliminate one step.  You can combine steps #3 and #4 by folding the piece into quarters and then punching!

Other Card Details:  I sponged on some Vanilla Frost Shimmer Paint over the embossed texture for some shine.
