I love using the Bliss flourish to create a soft, wallpaper-like background.  It's also fantastic for adding beautiful decorative borders, like I did on the Whisper White focal point.  The flourishes on the corners become the greenery for the flowers. 

Some of the flowers are popped up with Dimensionals, and they all have popped-up centers punched with a 1/4" Circle Punch.

I love the simplicity of this card, and I adore the Striped Grosgrain Ribbon tied up with a button!  It's hard to tell, but the first one is Marina Mist & Basic Black, and the second is Marina Mist & Early Espresso.  I love both color combinations!  I CASEd the design from Beth Crocker, who used Old Olive & Early Espresso—also very pretty!  You can see her card here: Old Olive Bliss Card.

The neutral tones on this card create a whole different look!  I love that the Bliss set can go from bright and cheery, to elegant and vintage depending on the colors and accessories—it's so versatile!  Again, I've used the flourish to peek out from under the focal point.  I also did intensive distressing of the edges with the Distress Tool, even adding a dog-earred corner on the second card (thanks for that little detail idea, Shelli).  I CASEd the basic design of these cards from Kari Metzger: A Bit of Bliss.

I Love Receiving Handmade Cards!

I love to open the mailbox and see a special, thicker-than-usual envelope filled with the caring thoughts of a special person in my life!  A handmade card!  For me!  It always brings a smile and a lighter heart!

With my change of address, I've recently received some beautiful cards wishing me well.  Today's card was especially lovely because it uses Bliss, my favorite Sale-A-Bration set (that's about ready to be gone and I haven't had time to even use it...weeps!), and purple & green, which is one of my most favorite color combinations!

I love, love, love the butterflies in the Bliss set, and these are accented with Basic Pearls!  They are so pretty on this card in combination with the images from the Clearly For You stamp set.  Linda's use of vellum is fantastic...stamping the flowers underneath in Old Olive and the lady bugs on top with Elegant Eggplant.

The trinkets are adorable and Stampin' Up! has some similar Trinket Keys, so I know I can recreate that look.  And, she used the scrunchy satin ribbon in a darker purple shade to really tie it all together!  The sentiment is punched with the Large 1-3/4" Oval Punch and layered on a Scallop Oval Punch. 

And, she even stamped the envelope—don't forget to make the outside pretty, too, because it adds to the excitement of opening the card!

Blast From The Past

I received another very unexpected card from my friend Angie.  We've been friends since nursery school, which was mumblety-mumble years ago—we were the two Angies!  (See, I was "two" cool way back then—haha!) 

Anyway, she sent me this card...

It's another handmade card...and it was made be ME!  That's right!  Years ago, back when I first started stamping, I gave her a set of all-occasion cards and she sent me one!  Haha!  What a surprise! 

I'd have to say that I truly feel like I've grown as a stamping artist since my first attempts back in 2003. It's fun to see the "old" stuff...this card looks so "retired!"  There's no more colored eyelets, or organdy ribbon, or decorator scissors.  All of the colors—Orchid Opulence, Ballet Blue, Barely Banana, Mellow Moss—have all been replaced by more trendy shades.  Even the artwork is dated looking somehow.  But, I still love it because it's mine, and it represents where I was with my stamping at the time!  And, I still remember how much fun I had watercoloring the shoes in that set! 

Thanks so much, Angie, for bringing my art full-circle!  And, for the well-wishes!  And, for reminding me that I still need to unpack my shoes!

Change of A Dress Cards

Well, it's been quite a week so far!  Definitely one of those weeks. 

You know the ones, when you're trying to get your taxes done at the last minute and your computer decides to become ill, and then reports that you need to run decide to have errors instead, and the printer decides to act up and run out of ink when the ink is packed in some box somewhere you can't find, and you're not getting your emails because the new address accounts you created last week decide to disappear into thin air...

Let's just say I've had some technical difficulties! Geesh!

But, finally, the computer is running again, the reports are working, the printer is cooperating, my email addresses are re-created, and my tax information is almost ready for the meeting with my accountant tomorrow.  Whew!  Thank goodness I can get back to my blogging now! 

Change of A Dress

Now, for a little trivia!  Did you know that there are such things as "change of a dress" cards?  No, not the post office kind.  The letting-people-know-you've-moved-with-a-cute-greeting-card kind:

How appropriate for my recent address change!  Of course, I would never buy a card!  *gasp*  But, it's a great idea for making an "We've Moved!" card!  I'll have to see what I can come up with...

In the meantime, and fitting with the dress theme, this moving card reminded me of a couple of lovely dress cards that Peggy Tassler shared with us at the last Stamp Club event.  Here's the first one...

Isn't it darling?!  She free-handed the dress shape that folds on the left side.  (I've seen similar dress cards folded at the top, too.)  I love the Blushing Bride and Black color combination!  Peggy used the Elegant Bouquet Impressions Folder to emboss the black skirt, then spritzed it with Vanilla Frost Smooch Spritz.  The polka dot ribbon belt is accented with stacked flowers from the Boho Blossoms Punch and topped with a Basic Rhinestone Jewel.

   

Here is another version that Peggy shared.  This one uses the retired Cottage Wall Designer Series Paper with a Scallop Edge Border.  The Rich Razzleberry skirt is embossed with the Elegant Bouquet Folder.  The second photo is of the inside of the card, decorated to look like a petticoat!  So pretty, inside and out!

I found this similar Dress Card Template online to help you get a good dress shape if you need help like me!  Have fun with this one!  Try it for a bridal shower, an invitation, a sweet 16 birthday, and so much more!  Dress it up or dress it down depending on the occasion.  Then, let me see what you've made!

It's All In The "So Shelli" Details

I love that Shelli Gardner, the co-founder and CEO of Stampin' Up!, still takes the time to stamp and share some project ideas on her So Shelli blog.  Well, why wouldn't she want to continue doing what she loves—stamping!  That's what she encourages all Stampin' Up! demonstrators to do with the motto, "Share What You Love!"

Shelli mentioned that Bliss is her favorite Sale-A-Bration set, too, and I wanted to share one of the cards she created with it:

Isn't it darling?!  I adore her stamping style!  You'll notice that nothing on the card is difficult or complicated.  There are no fancy techniques.  But, there are lots of tiny, thoughtful additions that make a great impact on the look of this card.  A crinkle or fold here; a small, simple accent there.  Shelli's projects are all about the details! 

There were a lot of great detail ideas on this card, many of which are different than anything that I've tried. 

• She stamped the "bliss" sentiment directly on the background.
• She used the Tasteful Trim scallop border (or simply some 1" Circle Punches) to peek out from under the focal point.
• She added some small Pearl Jewels between the scallops.
• She folded the 5/8" Old Olive Satin Ribbon to create a pretty loop.
• She crinkled up the Very Vanilla card stock underneath the River Rock Designer Series Patterns Paper.
• She stamped the flourish on the DSP, rather than plain card stock.
• She added a Scallop Circle scrunched flower to the top of the flourish image.
• She added two tiny card stock "ribbons" coming out from under the flower. 
• She added a Boho Blossoms Punch flower from the First Edition DSP on the top of the flower.
• She added two scrunched Old Olive leaves probably using the 5-Petal Flower Punch.
• She dog-earred the top corner of the card and distressed the opening edge.
• She used the Color Spritzer Tool to add some very sparse speckles to the entire card.

All of these little nuances may be small, even insignificant details when they stand alone, but Shelli combines them effortlessly to create a beautiful, "So Shelli" look!  Fabulous!

In Other News...

Everytime I see great ideas like the ones that Shelli or my stamping friends share, I'm chomping at the bit to get back to my stamping!  It's times like these that I'm thinking this moving stuff is getting real old! 

I packed up the rest of my office yesterday, so there's not much left on the inside of the old house.  We still haven't moved the garage equipment over, yet.  And, I'm scared to see what might be in my old attic!  Lord knows what has accumulated up there over 15 years!  Eeep!

But, truthfully, I'm just taking my time and trying to enjoy the process.  It's such a fun and exciting experience getting to know my new house and learning how to get along with it.  I think we're becoming fabulous friends!

Darla's Bliss with Framed Tulips Card

A quick post today, featuring another card made with the Bliss Sale-A-Bration set.  This one was created by Darla Eigenschink. 

  

I love the soft and elegant color combination she choose with the Blushing Bride and Basic Grey.  And, I had to give you a closeup of the bliss sentiment...she colored it with markers, using just a hint of Pear Pizzazz on the leaves...love it!

You'll also notice that she used the Framed Tulips Impressions Folder for an embossed border, then lightly highlighted the raised tulips with a White Craft Ink Pad. 

Other Supplies Used: Perfect Polka Dot Impressions Folder, White 5/8" Satin Ribbon, 1-3/4 x 7/8" Large Oval Punch, 2 x 1-3/8" Wide Oval Punch

Peggy's Great Friend Masked Butterflies Card

It sure is feeling like Spring today, with a high around 65° and the little daffodils poking up out of the ground (I'm excited to see what pops up in my new flowerbed).  I'm not going to think about how it's going to be highs in only the 30s - 40s after tomorrow...nope, I'm going to enjoy this tiny taste of Spring!

  

The weather's put me in the mood for some bright and cheery springtime cards, and my friend Peggy Tassler has just the card to fit the day! 

She used the lovely Great Friend stamp set.  I love this set because it's images are so versatile! (Oh, who am I kidding, aren't ALL of Stampin' Up! stamp sets versatile?!)  No, really!  Look at how nicely all the images work together on this card!  Delightful!

For the background, Peggy randomly stamped the butterfly image in Daffodil Delight ink on the same color card stock. 

Masked Butterfly Details: The focal piece was created with layered Masking Technique.  She randomly stamped the leaves in Pear Pizzazz on the Whisper White card stock, creating a base layer. 

Then, she created a mask from the butterfly by stamping it on scrap paper and cutting it out.  Using a temporary adhesive, like Dotto, the butterfly mask is held in place while Pacific Point Classic Ink is sponged lightly over the top.  Once the mask is removed, she stamped more leaves in Pacific Point.  What a lovely layered look! 

The card is finished off with the sentiment stamped in Pacific Point on Pear Pizzazz card stock, cut out and popped up with Dimensionals.  And, I love the little Boho Blossoms flower accent—the perfect touch!

Moving Adventures Update

Well, I've officially moved out of the Not Cool Stamping Studio and all of my boxes and boxes and boxes of stamping stuff are moved into their new Too Cool Stamping Studio! 

What a mess of work I have ahead of me finding places for everything to live!  Ack!  I think I'm going to fill the built-ins with finished projects, leftover kits, materials for upcoming classes, and workshop business supplies.  I kind of wanted to make the whole wall like a big credenza for my work table, but I decided that I needed to sit closer to the window.

This will be my working area, and I'll be able to look out the window and see the squirrels playing in the backyard, and open the window to feel a nice breeze and hear the birds singing!  It always makes me happy and creative when I'm surrounded by nature!  And, it shouldn't be long before I can enjoy it with Spring on the way!  Woohoo!

But, until then, while the temps are still so chilly, I'll keep organizing and organizing!  And, I'll have to figure out what the heck am I going to do with all these drawers?!

I used to have them hidden in a closet, but now they are out in the open getting ready to be a great big eyesore!  I was thinking I might have to buy some storage cabinets to stack them in.  Any suggestions?

Another dilemma I'm having is how to paint the crazy high stairwell...

The ceiling above the door is way too high for short little me to reach without hanging precariously over the open stairs!  I've researched all kinds of ladders and do-it-yourself scaffolding contraptions, and frankly, they all scare the crap out of me!  I'm thinking I may have to hire that project to be done!  Add that to the list!

Michelle's Bliss Card & Treat Holder

Michelle Hoover created this beautiful card and treat holder combination with the Bliss set as a project for one of her recent events—isn't it simply fabulous?!  I love, love, love it!

Bliss Card Details: She used the emboss resist technique by clear embossing the flourish on Elegant Soireé Designer Series Paper, then brayering Not Quite Navy Classic Ink over the top.  The edges are roughed up with the Distressing Tool from the Cutter Tool Kit, and sponged with Soft Suede ink.

The randomly stamped Soft Suede background is also distressed and sponged, adding to the antiqued look of this vintage card. 

The butterfly is stamped in Baha Breeze, but out and popped up with Dimensionals, then topped with a single Pearl Jewel.

The Victoria Crochet Trim dresses up the card, and I love the little Jewelry Tag Punches with the Tiny Tags images on them.  Absolutely darling!

Matching Bliss Treat Holder Details

The basic treat box is created from the Fancy Favor Big Shot Die in Pacific Point card stock.

Michelle decorated it in a similar style by using the same colors and images, without the emboss resist. 

Along with distressing and sponging the edges, she even dog-earred the corners for a well-worn, tattered look. 

What a cute little ensemble to give to a friend! Thanks for sharing your projects with us, Michelle! 

New House Adventures Update

Well, everyone keeps asking if I'm all moved in yet...

Hahahahahahaha! 

I feel like I haven't even made a dent in my ever-growing To Do List!  I forgot how much work it is to get things put away and organized.  And, I'm trying to "spring clean" the house as I go, so it's all shiny and sparkly!   Cleaning has been about as much fun as watching paint dry.

In other painting news...As of last night, after a week-long painting hiatus, I finally got my last coat of paint on the basement walls!  Woohoo!  So, today, I've been moving stuff around in my studio and trying to visualize how I want it all laid out. I'm also ready to pack up my old Not Cool Stamping Studio...

Here it is in all of it's post-hurricane glory.  Some of my cubes are already at the other place.  Remnants of my solitary March stamp event are scattered across the floor.  It's an embarrassing site, but I thought it would be good to have a last photo for nostalgic purposes.  Now I'm off to pack it all up and say goodbye to my cramped and chaotic crafty area.  Yay!  Can't wait to spread out in the new digs!  

Also, we finally got internet at the new place, so I'll be packing up the office and moving that soon.  And, I'll be sure to let you all know my new email address as soon as I have that set up! 

Slowly, but surely...things are moving along!

Darla's St. Patrick's Day Card

Happy St. Patrick's Day, stamping friends!

I thought it would only be appropriate to have today's card brought to you by my Irish friend and downline, Darla Eigenschink! 

She used the Lucky Shamrock single stamp on the last page of the Occasions Mini Catalog to make this quick and easy St. Patty's Day greeting.  To add some ultra-shine to the shamrock, Darla added a bit of gloss with Crystal Effects!

The background is so fun!  She layered Garden Green punches from the Curly Label Punch in a diagonal brick pattern—love this look!  She also used some Garden Green striped paper from the Regals Designer Patterns Paper Stack, and a Pumpkin Pie 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon for some contrast.

Quick & Easy Heart Shamrocks

Well, I wanted to show you this cool little trick for making a shamrock out of the Small Heart Punch, but I'm at my old house and the punch I need is at my new house (that's just how it seems to go lately). 

So, I'll take the easy way out and link to the tip that I found on Mike Funke's Stampin' Style blog:  Luck o' The Irish.

He used 3 punched hearts, and a partially-punched heart for the stem, to make the clovers on these Petal Card Punch boxes.  Too cute!  He also used the Got Treats stamp set for the polka dot shamrock image.  Learn how to create these cute boxes at Mary Fish's blog: Petal Card Punch Boxes.

My little dogger, Lucky, is doing much better!  He is getting used to the new routine and surroundings at our new home, and is starting to take the stairs a little bit slower. Heh. More updates to come...

Shirley's Petal Cone Carrot Treat Holder

Well, I finally did it!  I was trying so hard to not order the Petal Cone Die, but every day I'm seeing fun, new projects that I just have to try! 

Today, I ordered it, and I can't wait until it gets here (and I have a place set up to use it), so I can try it out!

My friend Shirley Meyer recently got her Petal Cone Die and here was the first project she created with it...

They are cute Petal Cone Die carrots that hold a chocolate Easter bunny!  Absolutely darling!  I love the scallop trim pieces that are die-cut with the die.  And, when you combine the Scallop Circle Punch and the Tangerine Tango Pom Pom Trim...oooooooh! 

She wrapped the chocolate in a Small Cello Bag and tied it with 5/8" Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon. 

Love it!  Love it!  Love it!  Thanks for sharing, Shirley!
