Blendabilities - bloom for you two cool

The Blended Bloom single stamp image is perfect for showcasing the awesome blending and shading capabilities of the Blendabilities Markers.  For this class card, we'll use the bold Cherry Cobbler with the softer Calypso Coral for a lovely, rich combination!

Photos don't do the flowers justice—they are simply stunning in real-life. They do take a little time to color, but once you're done, you won't need anything but a simple background to highlight this breathtaking focal point!

Blending The Bloom—For best results, start by stamping the Blended Bloom flower in Memento Black Ink onto Whisper White card stock. At the class, I'll share a couple of different ways that you can color in the petals and you can experiment to find which way works best for you.

My favorite way of coloring keeps changing the more I play with these markers.  I'm discovering that the technique that I use also depends on the image I'm coloring and how dark I want the final design to be.

Dark-To-Light Coloring—For this flower, I started with a skinny line of the dark Cherry Cobbler color with the fine nib in the shaded areas first.  Then I added the medium shade with the fine nib and blended out the rest of the petals with the light fine nib.  Finally, I added some highlights with the Color Lifter Marker.  Check out the video link above to see an example of this style of coloring.

TIP: I worked on only 3-4 petals at a time to keep the ink wet for easier blending.

Once I was done coloring the main part of the flower, I went back and added the dark color to the edges of the petals that look flipped over.

Flower Center—I used the Calypso Coral dark color marker in the middle and worked out to the edges with the lighter colors.

Colored Pearls—I colored the Pearl Jewels in Cherry Cobbler on the paper first, then transferred them to the flower center.  TIP: Be careful when coloring Jewels, because it's easy to fray the nib if you color over it back and forth.  I use the brush tip first and slowly circle the pearl with color on the edges, then I use the fine nib to color the top of the jewel.

Sweet Sentiments & Background—I stamped the Wetlands greeting in Cherry Cobbler on the 4-1/4" x 4" Whisper White card stock.  That layer is mounted on a 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" piece of Crisp Cantaloupe, then adhered to the Cherry Cobbler card base.

Finishing Touches—I hand-cut the flower with my handy, extra-sharp-to-the-point Paper Snips, and attached it over a Calypso Coral Chevron Ribbon banner with some Dimensionals.

I was really liking this color combination, so of course I had to experiment with an opposite colored flower!

I love the way this Calypso Coral bloom turned out with the Cherry Cobbler in the center.  Those Calypso Coral Pearls really pop on the dark background.  So pretty!

I finished off this card with the Cherry Cobbler Chevron Ribbon and another sentiment from the Wetlands set.  This is definitely one of my favorite cards from the class!

  1. Gorgeous cards! Isn’t that flower Blended Bloom and not Bloom For You? Had me confused for a bit! 🙂 I’m going to attempt to case your card as I really like it! TFS!
