Hi Stamping Friends!
I prepared 24 fabulous projects for my Faux Patina Technique presentation last weekend and I can't wait to share them with you! Rather than posting the projects here and there, I've decided to share them as a collection during a special Faux Patina Week: September 16 – 22!
In the meantime, I'll be sharing a few projects while you wait to whet your appetite! I'm featuring two of my favorite projects today, then I'll be doing a Faux Patina Friday for the three weeks leading up to the big Faux Patina Week! Woohoo! You are gonna be amazed by the versatility of this technique!
What Is The Faux Patina Technique?
It's a beautiful, texture embossed, and richly sponged background technique that is highlighted with heat embossing to give the effect of oxidized patina. There are limitless possibilities to be creative with it simply by using different embossing folders, changing up the color combos, and applying the metallic embossing powders in a different way.

Let's look at two cool Faux Patina projects!
I decorated a journal that I purchased at Office Depot with a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" faux patina design. I added beautiful Gold Foil accents along the edge with the Adorning Accents Edgelits. Some Crochet Trim and 1/8" Early Espresso Taffeta Ribbon add a soft, flowing texture along the spiral binding.

Step-by-Step Faux Patina Recipe:
- Ink Beautifully Baroque Embossing Folder with Smoky Slate, and emboss Whisper White or Very Vanilla card stock.
- Sponge on Pool Party Ink
- Sponge on Always Artichoke Ink
- Sponge on Early Espresso Ink
- Stamp Gorgeous Grunge (wood) stripes over entire piece with VersaMark Ink
- Sprinkle on Gold Embossing Powder and heat with a Heat Tool until glossy and smooth
I absolutely LOVE the look of the Gorgeous Grunge stripes with this technique! You have to see it in person…photos don't do it justice!
I used a label framelit from the Circle Card Thinlit set to cut out a window for the holder that was already adhered to the front and filled in the top and bottom spaces with Early Espresso card stock scraps. The label is stamped with the word "dreams" from the Fabulous Phrases (wood) set in Early Espresso ink.
My next project is a Monogram Post-It Note Holder. Check out the Four Seasons Post-It Note Holder to learn how to make it. The base is made with Midnight Muse card stock and tied with a Midnight Muse Stitched Satin Ribbon.

Step-by-Step Faux Patina Recipe:
- Ink Beautifully Baroque Embossing Folder with Crumb Cake, and emboss Whisper White or Very Vanilla card stock.
- Sponge on Coastal Cabana Ink
- Sponge on Bermuda Bay Ink
- Sponge on Midnight Muse Ink
- Ramdomly rub VersaMark Ink pad over the embossed texture
- Sprinkle on Silver Embossing Powder and heat with a Heat Tool until glossy and smooth
I love the more traditional color of this project!
I finished off the note holder with a Morning Post (wood) monogram letter stamped in Midnight Muse on Whisper White. I punched it with the Artisan Label Punch, then layered it onto another Artisan Label shape in Coastal Cabana (cut in half and moved to the edges). That's popped up with Dimensionals over a Midnight Muse die-cut using the Chalk Talk Framelits. Some Rhinestone Jewels add some sparkle.
