Dad’s Day Gift Package & Pop-Up Card

Hi Stamping Friends!

First of all, I wanted to thank all of the kind people who contacted me because I didn't post my Sunday Showcase yesterday.  It's certainly nice to be missed and I appreciate all of the concern, but everything is fine.  I simply ran out of time to get it all done (story of my life)!  I was busy packing up the Best of Greetings kits and finishing up my Father's Day card and gift in the morning, then I spent the rest of the day with my dear ole dad!  I hope you enjoyed a lovely Father's Day, too!

Wanna see what I made my dad?

Father's day card

CASEd from Dawn Olchefske at DO Stamping.

I CASEd this card idea from Dawn Olchefske and even used the same Comfort Café Designer Papers (retired) she used because they are masculine and perfect for Father's Day.

When you open the card, it has fun pop-up letters!  Dawn's used the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies to create her letters, but I don't own that set.  So, instead I stamped with the Morning Post Alphabet in Midnight Muse and punched each letter out with a 1-1/4" Circle Punch.

The letters are popped up on a 1/2" strip of Window Sheets and I finished them off with another plain circle on the back.  Looking at it now, I probably should have just stamped "DAD" on the backs, too.

Pop-Up Word/Name Card

It's deceptively easy to create this fun pop-up word card.  Check out Dawn's Pop-Up Name Card video for details.  I did a similar pop-up card with butterflies awhile back, which you can see here: Fluttering Butterflies Pop-Up Card.

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  • Cut two pieces of card stock: 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" and 2-3/8' x 5-1/2".
  • Score each piece 1/4" from the edge down the 5-1/2" legnth.
  • Add Sticky Strip to the 1/4' tab on the larger piece.
  • Attach each die-cut or stamped & punched letter to a 1/2" wide strip of Window Sheet with Sticky Strip or Glue Dots.  The window sheet legnth may vary depending on how wide the letters are.  I started with 2-1/2" strips, but you can trim later.  TIP: Make sure that your letters do not pop-up too much or they will show when the card front is added.
  • Add a letter or punch-out to the back with Sticky Strip or Glue Dots for a finished look.
  • Adhere letters to your card.  Start with the center letter for even spacing.  Trim any excess Window Sheets once you have the letters lined up where you want them.
  • Adhere the two sides of the card, tab-to-tab.
  • Decorate the panels and add a focal point element on the front.

When I had assembled the card, I realized that my letters were sticking out too far and you could see them when the card was closed.  So, I added the Midnight Muse layer with the Large Scallop border to cover up the letters.  No more problem!

I also decorated my dad's Father's Day gift package a bit…

Father's day gift

I used some kraft paper that Stampin' Up! uses as packing material to wrap my present. That packing paper sure comes in handy!

Father's day gift 3

Once it was wrapped, I grunge-stamped the new Positively Chevron background stamp (wood) all over the top. By grunge-stamped, I mean that I randomly inked up the background stamp so only part of the image would stamp.  It makes it look worn and weathered and a little grunge-y.

Next, I used the Hexagon Punch to add some Comfort Café shapes, then accented many of them with Rhinestone Jewels.

I had another smaller gift, which I packaged in the new Tag A Bag Gift Bags.  I wrapped it with Midnight Muse Stitched Satin Ribbon, then used a mini clothespin from the Tag A Bag Accessory Kit to keep it closed.  I tucked the bag under the 7/8' Cotton Ribbon that I tied around the package in a pretty bow.

Last, but not least, is the gift tag, created with the Chalk Talk stamp set (wood) and Chalk Talk Framelits.  I love that new die for this tag—it looks like a bread bag closure tab the way it's cut to hang on something!

The sentiment image is punched with the Extra Large Oval Punch, then layered on the new Deco Labels Collection Framelits shape.

I sure had lots of fun creating unique packaging for my gifts!  I need to do that more often!  Have you used your stamps to create some Too Cool packaging?
