Season of Joy Circle Scallop Snow Scene

Well, I don't have a new camera yet, but I got my broken camera to turn on.  I just can't turn if off (it's the on/off switch that's broken), so I have to take out the battery when I'm done.  At least it will buy me a few more days while I look around for a good camera deal.  Anyone have any recommendations for a nice point & shoot?

I'm so glad I got it working, for now—I couldn't wait to show you my glittery winter scene card!

WinterScene My inspiration for this card came from Juliann Knudsen, a fellow demonstrator, who posted a simliar circle scallop winter scene on our demonstrator website.  I posted a mini version of her card to the right.

As far as I know, Juliann doesn't have a public blog or website, so unless you're a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, you wouldn't have access to her fabulous projects.  Did you know that there is a whole wealth of wonderful stamping ideas and resources available only to SU demonstrators? Scallop Circle Snow Scene

The element that really makes this card fantastic is the Circle Scallop snow scene.  I've done snow scenes on past cards, but they have always had straight sides.  Adding the new circle shape allowed for a surprising amount of versatility in how the snow hills could be arranged.

Scallop circle snow 1

First, I die-cut a Bashful Blue and Whisper White circle scallop with the Circle Scallops #2 Die.  I then made an "S" shape cut through the white piece about 1/3 of the way down.  These two pieces will create your snow hills.

The versatility I mentioned comes with the placement of the snow hills.  Not only can you use either side of your hills (back or front), you can also rotate the hills, keeping the scallops aligned.  You can see in my examples above that I kept rotating the top hill a couple scallops over in each progressive photo.  This allows you to create steep mountains, or gently rolling hills.

More Card Details

I stamped the trio of snowflakes from Serene Snowflakes in Pacific Point on the Bashful Blue piece.  Once the snow hill pieces were cut, all the scalloped pieces were sponged with Pacific Point.  I outlined the hills and dotted the snowflakes with 2-way Glue sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds.

Season of joy I110384F The pine tree stamp from Season of Joy is colored with Wild Wasabi and Early Espresso markers, then stamped, cut out and glitzed up with more Dazzling Diamonds glitter.

Background is embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots Impressions Folder and layered on Wild Wasabi card stock.  Bashful Blue 1/4" grosgrain is tied in a knot and trimmed.

The sentiment is also from Season of Joy.  I used the Decorative Label Punch to trim a fancy edge on one side of this piece.

Basic Jewel Rhinestones were added to the tree and sentiment for more sparkle!

Workshop Woes & Rescue!

I did my first workshop with this new card design yesterday, but unfortunately, I forgot a key ingredient for making the project—the Circle Scallop #2 Die!  Oh my!  I hate it when I am missing something absolutely essential and I'm 25 minutes away from home!  Panic!!!!

Thankfully, Connie, one of the guests, was able to get a paper trimmer from her house nearby, and we made some quick adjustments to the project.  Whew!

Instead of the pretty circle scallop shape, I showed them how to do the same kind of snow hills on a rectangle piece.  Here's the square piece I created on the fly…

I used the extra pieces I had trimmed off to punch some Scallop Trim Border edges.  Not quite as cool, but still workable!  You can see here that you can't do the rotating of your hills like the circle, but you can move your hills up and down and trim off any excess that may hang off the bottom.

Patterned pines snow scene 2009

Here's another example of snow hills that I did for one of my Christmas cards last year.  The background hill is in Sahara Sand, and the foreground hill is Whisper White card stock dry embossed with a Perfect Details Texturz Plate.  Although the Patterned Pines set has been retired, you could easily use the Season of Joy tree.  Here I embossed the trees in white on Soft Suede.  Its a fast and easy design to create if you're doing mass-production of cards.
